Massachusetts lawmakers are being encouraged to adopt a "million solar roofs" equivalent initiative, similar to California's successful program spearheaded by Governor Schwarzenegger. Environment America has launched a petition supporting a 10 GW buildout of solar in Massachusetts to protect its forests and other lands. Despite being densely populated, Massachusetts has made significant strides in installing small-scale solar. However, to meet its clean energy targets and achieve net-zero emissions by midcentury, the state needs to significantly expand its solar capacity. The Solar Energy Industry Association (SEIA) reports that while 4.3 GW of solar has been installed through Q3 2023, there is still ample room for growth. Johanna Neumann, acting director of Environment Massachusetts, advocates for Massachusetts to adopt a "million solar roofs" equivalent initiative, aiming to install 10 GW of solar by 2030. This initiative aims to ensure that solar development in the state preserves forests, farmlands, and other natural landscapes. Interested individuals can support this initiative by signing a petition from Environment America. https://lnkd.in/gv-sWEVy #MassachusettsSolar #CleanEnergy #RenewableEnergy #SolarInitiative #ClimateAction #EnvironmentProtection #SolarGoals #NetZeroEmissions

🚨 A recent ProPublica exposé reveals what many of us have feared: NW Natural is misleading Oregonians about its commitment to renewable energy and the climate. Despite years of marketing “renewable natural gas” (RNG), less than 1% of NW Natural’s gas supply comes from renewable sources! Meanwhile, the company continues to fight against Oregon’s Climate Protection Program, which is vital for reducing emissions and investing in clean energy. Former Rep. Phil Barnhart summed it up: "NW Natural has done a very, very good job of saying true things in a way that is grossly misleading." The truth is, they are supplying more fossil fuel gas now than ever while painting a false picture of Oregon’s potential for renewable energy. It’s time we hold NW Natural accountable. Oregon’s Climate Protection Program is crucial to building a clean energy future, and we can’t let corporate interests derail our progress. Let’s keep pushing for bold climate action and expose greenwashing for what it really is. 🌍✊ #ClimateActionNow #CleanEnergy #StopGreenwashing

A very rational and clear eyed analysis of our current energy situation. In my opinion, there is only one thing we can do to make a real impact on global emissions. There are laws regarding the import and trading of “conflict metals” and our manufacturers have to certify their entire supply chain to be free of them. Do the same thing for environmentally clean production of ALL imported goods. Every time we put further environmental restrictions on US domestic production, we move more of that production off shore to plants that pollute more than where it was produced in the US. We could completely freeze any further environmental restrictions in the US and force all imported goods to be produced by our current environmental standards and we could stop all the “clean energy” insanity here while watching the global emissions drop. We are the largest consuming nation and to think we are doing good by cleaning up only the little we still produce here is naive at best.
I have started a Substack profile to help invigorate Benton PUD’s social media presence and support our EmPOWERed education and outreach program. Politicians are designing the power grid and I fear we are heading for a cliff if we don't change the path we are currently on. Utilities must offer a better vision. How about an environmentally responsible energy future of abundance and human flourishing; not one based on unprecedented land grabs, intermittency, variability, and scarcity.

Check out Nicole Yeomans, our Offshore Industrials and Shipping Lead, in the latest instalment of Nature Intelligence Views. Nicole explains that in the offshore sector, eDNA is quickly replacing the destructive environmental survey methods of the past. 🧬 🐟 eDNA is proving to be an absolute game-changer for companies with ambitious #NaturePositive targets, enabling them to track, monitor and measure the impacts of their restoration efforts. And what’s more, it’s quick, simple and low cost! To find out more, listen again to our recent webinar, sharing the results of a project undertaken with Natural Power and EDF Renewables UK & Ireland to compare trawl surveys to #eDNA-driven environmental impact surveys. https://lnkd.in/er4Fibhd #eDNA #NatureIntelligenceViews #OffshoreIndustrials #EnvironmentalImpactAssessments #Biodiversity #Sustainability #NatureIntelligence
