A few years ago, when Najwa Khan was scouring the aisles for a healthy packaged treat, she found paint thinner. 😲 Specifically, she found foods labeled “natural” that contained ingredients processed with the toxic hydrocarbon hexane. And it really pissed her off. In fact, for a baker of wholesome brownies so yummy they can make you forget all that’s wrong in the world for a few bites, Khan is pretty angry. Luckily, it’s a passionate, productive kind of anger, the kind that fueled her through a master’s degree and career in public health to fight health injustice then to launch dalci. If you want to be healthy and in good shape... eat the foods Nature has provided for your body to work at its maximum efficiency.

I don’t believe people know that 99 percent of the 10,000+ additives in the American food supply have not been studied. I recently read from a reliable source that 1,000 of these additives are deemed unfit for human consumption and banned in other countries. Do you know that the FDA gave the food companies the authority to decide what additives are safe to put in our food supply? The FDA relinquished its duty to the entities it was supposed to regulate in the Generally Recognized As Safe (GRAS) provision to a 1958 amendment aimed to provide better protection from deadly food and misleading claims from unscrupulous food companies. Fast forward to 2024: toxic additives in our food supply are causing sickness, suffering, and premature death among Americans who rely heavily on ultra-processed foods. Nearly 70% of Americans’ daily caloric intake is ultra-processed foods which are chemical-laced, devitalized, and nutrient-deficient. Big Food poisons us for profi.
