➡️ P is for preventative care
Rio Ferdinand is not only known for his incredible football career, but he’s also a passionate advocate for mental health and well-being, especially within the Black community. After experiencing personal loss, he became a strong voice for talking openly about mental health challenges and removing the stigma around seeking help.
As a preventative health advocate, I can’t emphasize enough how critical preventive care is, especially in Black communities where conditions like diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart disease are often diagnosed late. Routine screenings, annual check-ups, and early intervention can be game changers in our health outcomes.
Preventive care isn’t just about catching something early—it’s about empowerment. It’s about taking control of our health before problems arise, rather than reacting after they do. For too long, our communities have faced barriers to accessing the care we need. We have to change that narrative by prioritizing prevention and making sure our communities have the education and resources to stay ahead of chronic illness.
Just like Rio, I believe in the power of open conversations about health—whether it’s mental, physical, or preventive care. It’s time to break the silence, support each other, and make health a priority in our communities.
