100 Seats for Misfits: Do you have your ticket? I loved how Myah described her Company: 'It's a training ground for the misfit.' A misfit is someone who does not fit easily within a particular group or environment—I’ve been a misfit all my life. What about you? A misfit is someone whose behavior or attitudes differ from the norms of the group they are in, making them stand out or sometimes feel out of place. I bet you have felt out of place at one point or another too. I don’t call myself the 'accidental banker' because I fit perfectly in this world—I am a misfit. Isn’t it great when you find a group, an organization, or a friend where being yourself is celebrated? That’s exactly what they are doing with this program. I call this kind of program a training ground for the underdog. I refer to this type of effort as 'the but for.' But for an initiative like this, people who are looking to find their way wouldn’t get the exposure that could be the tipping point directing them toward their purpose! I, for one, am all for giving people platforms and positioning them to reach the next level. I want to celebrate these ‘misfits’—will you join me? The auditorium holds 100 people—let’s pack it! New Release from Bernhard Living - From Here to There https://lnkd.in/ecqY5KWD The ‘From Here to There’ album consists of three experimental tone-based compositions that explore the use of different harmonic structures in non-traditional musical forms. Composition 2023.02 (Untitled) consists of a single line moving in semi-tones and minor thirds - within a pitch range between A1 to C3. It suggests never ending permutation and endless movement through time. Composition 2023.03 (Untitled) is based on a seven-note tone-cell of C - C# - D - D# - E - F# - A# - and which appear as two-note and three-note chords - with the chords repeating from moment to moment. Composition 2023.09 (Untitled) is based on the chord sequence (changes) from John Coltrane’s 1960’s jazz composition ‘Giant Steps’. The title "From here to there" as a philosophical concept that encapsulates several themes and interpretations. Philosophically - this phrase can signify the process of change and transformation. It highlights the journey from one state of being or understanding to another. This can be related to the development and evolution of ideas - or broader social changes. It can also refer to the passage of time - where "here" represents the present moment and "there" represents the future.

This is a new song. It will likely be the title track for the next record. I have decided to experiment with different percussion and guitar styles. I'm introducing a wah pedal into the mix. These are stylistic choices I would have never made a few years ago. There's nothing new here in terms of using 1970s influences in modern music, but everybody's take is going to be different. Lyrics and titles for the songs I write can vary. They can be dense or sparse, depending on what a melody needs. From verbally packed, to a single sentence repeated throughout the whole song. Everything is instinctual. In the old days, I would overthink things to death. Now I trust myself, and try to honor my initial feelings about what I'm doing if they feel correct. This song is one of the sparer ones, but I try to make each phrase mean is much is possible in conjunction with one another. The title phrase probably was me having a moment of reflection on the finite amount of time I have left to accomplish what matters to me. I tried, in the song to look backwards, forwards, and describe the now. For some reason it felt right to let these phrases take up a lot of space in between each other. As you're listening to the music, they have time to drift from one thought to the next. It's not linear, but each of these snippets are about the perception of time. This is stuff that makes sense only after a life of experiences and feelings. It's a shorthand for deep thoughts. THis ENds Whatever happened to the mayor of Dogtown? Meanwhile, it's very much a part of human nature to seek similarities among phenomena rather than focusing on differences, laying the groundwork for change. Sometimes, this inclination is justified, especially when attempting such comparisons seems unimaginable. Take, for instance, the question: What similarities exist between Opera and Jazz? Instead of assuming there are none, consider how George #Gershwin made an attempt to reconcile these two genres with his creation, "Porgy and Bess." What makes "Porgy and Bess" somewhat similar to #jazz is its incorporation of jazz elements into the operatic form. Gershwin infused the score with blues, jazz, and spiritual influences, creating a uniquely American sound. The opera features syncopated rhythms, improvisational passages, and harmonic progressions reminiscent of jazz music. Additionally, the characters often sing in a conversational, idiomatic style that reflects the vernacular language of the time. While "Porgy and Bess" is not a traditional jazz work, its fusion of operatic and jazz elements makes it a notable example of how these two genres can intersect and influence each other. In sport, ‘excellence’ is well-understood as an absolutely essential prerequisite. Many policy makers, arts council members, and dumbing-down academics prefer that the arts are kept in a state of enforced mediocrity at best, by rejecting the concept of excellence. Real standards in the arts would reveal how threadbare are the basic skills of many of those today who claim their work is more important than the masterpieces of the past - but want to avoid others having the chance to experience the latter, in which context their own work will be seen as wanting. As Catherine Bennett points out: ‘Hint for funding applicants: engage, as Stalin also used to recommend, “with the stories of the contemporary nation”; avoid “excellence” and its synonyms. “Terms like excellence,” the ACE authors advise, “are indicative of the way in which opera and music theatre still retains unhelpful hierarchies about what kinds of work are valued.” “Good”, while permissible, should appear in inverted commas.’ https://lnkd.in/esqvRzEH
