Water is very important to us here at NYPA - it's the foundation of more than 80% of the power we produce. As we finish celebrating #HydroDay last week, we're celebrating #WorldWaterWeek this week. This year's theme asks us to recognize the regional and global interconnectivity of communities and nations through water, and underscores the collaborative effort needed to achieve a peaceful and sustainable future.

🌊Key elements of Friday's UN 'Water for Peace' resonate with our founding partner's motivations 💧 Introducing: River Power Pod (https://lnkd.in/ezJCKwh2) "When water is scarce or polluted, or when people have unequal or no access, tensions can rise between communities and countries. … non-discrimination and equality in ensuring access to water and sanitation can have a positive ripple effect across society." River Power Pod, supported by RedCAT, is seeking to contribute by developing accessible in-stream hydro technology, disseminated through knowledge transfer and skills sharing, to provide access to sustainable energy and freshwater pumping – empowering people and communities across the Global South. 🌊 River Power Pod shows us that innovation is not just about reducing carbon emissions or developing green technology for the sake of it—it's about equality, sustainability, and empowerment. 💡 If you want to find out more about River Power Pod, get in touch with Ged Heffernan. Ged is a regular at the RedCAT Network, the next meeting is on the 25th April, email network@redcatgroup.co.uk to secure your place ⏰

In service of prosperity for people and planet. Caring for all life. Doing my best to embody the highest values.
I have been reflecting over the past few days on two themes related to the market for community-based REDD+ forest conservation projects: Risk and motivation. On risk: Right now it is difficult for a procurement or sourcing professional to put themselves on the line for a project that might wind up in the cross-hairs of yet another one-sided media attack the very next day. That is why we are investing so much time and money to make it reputationally safer for buyers to support these projects, especially in relation to carbon crediting claims and "baselines." But what about the motivation? All you really need to do is read this blog post from Wildlife Works and, especially, watch the short video without distraction. In what alternative universe without REDD+ (i.e., the "counterfactual") would the remote forest communities of Mai Ndombe have a modern hospital complete with physician, staff, and medicines? Or the Bunong people have been granted Indigenous Collective Land Titles in Cambodia through the Keo Seima REDD+ Project (https://lnkd.in/gVeGFU5R)? Or over 37,000 scholarships awarded to Kenyan schoolchildren, and $1.6 million invested, since 2012 through the Kasigau Corridor REDD+ Project (https://lnkd.in/esdcq_SA)? Or 43 new water wells providing 27,516 people with improved access to drinking water in 7 communities of the Southern Cardamom REDD+ Project (https://lnkd.in/ePgwNDQK)? These are just single snapshots of the comprehensive, transformative impacts that these flagship conservation projects have had. We are going to be sharing plenty of charts and graphs in the coming weeks about baselines and other issues related to "carbon integrity," but before we get to all of that we must remember why exactly we are doing this work, and what the world would really be like without it. And, therefore, what it still can be. https://lnkd.in/gV8FNX6J

Massachusetts colleagues! Please consider signing this letter, written by the Massachusetts Pollinator Network, in support of a Municipal Reforestation Bill. If this bill is adopted it will encourage the expansion of the urban tree canopy across Massachusetts will enable us to: - Plant trees and provide jobs for youth in all MA cities and towns, prioritizing Environmental Justice communities - improve public health and climate adaptation and mitigation - increase urban biodiversity and habitat. The letter also includes a proposal to grow native trees from seed in Massachusetts to make more of them available for municipal planting. This would create new jobs, provide trees that are already acclimated to local conditions, and increase climate resilience and biodiversity. https://lnkd.in/eaFHZYw9

An update on Carbon Neutral's environmental regeneration carbon project with the Esperance Tjaltjraak Native Title Aboriginal Corporation we shared earlier this year. The project incorporates the gathering of endemic tree species’ seeds, propagation and eventually full regeneration of degraded land, no longer suitable for agriculture. Traditional Owners will invest funds from the sale of carbon credits in housing, health and education upgrades, while also expanding their ranger program to provide more opportunities for employment on Country. Learn more about the project in this short video: https://lnkd.in/gsiMV3mE #Indigenousknowledge #carbonfarming #regeneration #environmentalrestoration #carbonmarkets #carbonsequestration #naturebasedsolutions #carboncredits #emissionsreduction #netzero #netnegative

🤝Getting Stronger Together 🤝 We are excited to share that exchange and clustering activities between the sister #HorizonEU funded projects under the same call HORIZON-CL6-2023-CLIMATE-01, AWARD_HEU, MARCLAIMED EU and RECREATE, have started. This cluster #AlternativeWaterResources4Climate focuses on enhancing the reliability and effectiveness of alternative water resources (#AWR) supply systems and technologies. As part of this, the #policy, #regulation and #financing experts of the three projects had a first round of exchange, focusing on identifying #synergies regarding their policy-relevant work as well as establishing future exchange and cooperation activities. We look forward to continuing our #clustering activities to promote the use of #AlternativeWaterResources across Europe. "Alone, we go faster. Together, we go further" Stay tuned for more updates🌟 #CollaborationInAction #water #Sustainability #climateresilience #horizoneurope
