We are excited to launch a #CleanTech Funding Foundations series in partnership with CleanStart through the Sacramento Entrepreneurial Growth Alliance - Accelerate CA Hub designation by the California Office of the Small Business Advocate (CalOSBA) Business Advocate. This series aims to support early stage innovators and entrepreneurs in understanding the foundations of how to raise capital especially as a cleantech startup. This series is open to #founders and #startups in various industries but will leverage examples from the cleantech industry. This is a poster on the toilet door of Draper University. Once I started a business, faced difficulties and sort of gave up after 3 yrs. There was no one to guide, no one mentor, no one to say it's ok to fail. It was so difficult to get financing from banks. Or to say it's ok to start over. But people in the US, in Silicon Valley, are exactly saying "don't worry, it takes time. It takes minimum 10 years to succeed as an entrepreneur." As an early-stage tech builder, I've been thinking a lot about the importance of finding the right investors. Here's a question for you: "Would you rather bootstrap your startup than take funding from the wrong investors?" I’m curious to hear your thoughts! For me, it's a resounding yes. Here's why: 1. Shared Vision and Values: The right investors get your mission and values. When everyone’s on the same page, magic happens. Misaligned goals can create unnecessary friction and derail progress. 2. Strategic Support: Good investors are more than just a check. They bring mentorship, industry connections, and strategic advice that can make a huge difference. 3. Long-Term Partnership: Building a startup is a marathon. The right investors stick with you through thick and thin, providing support when you need it most. Finding these investors isn’t easy and certainly doesn’t happen overnight. It takes patience, perseverance, and knowing what you truly need beyond just money.
