I've been closely monitoring South Africa's energy landscape, and recent developments have caught my attention. The appointment of Kgosientsho Ramokgopa as the new Minister of Electricity and Energy marks a pivotal moment in the country's energy policy. Ramokgopa's pledge to be "ultra-aggressive" in rolling out renewable energy indicates a significant shift from previous administrations. This change couldn't come at a more critical time. South Africa, currently among the world's top 15 greenhouse gas emitters, has struggled with persistent power cuts that have hampered economic growth. The minister's commitment to large-scale "mega-bid windows" for renewable projects presents an unprecedented opportunity. With its abundant solar and wind resources, South Africa is poised to become a leader in renewable energy on the African continent. This shift isn't just about energy - it's about economic transformation. The focus on increasing local participation in renewable projects could spark a new era of industrialisation and job creation. It's a chance to build a more resilient, sustainable economy. However, challenges remain. The minister acknowledges issues with municipal infrastructure and grid capacity that need addressing. These hurdles present opportunities for innovative solutions and investments in modernising the nation's energy infrastructure. At Grovest, we see immense potential in this new direction. Our work with Twelve B aligns perfectly with South Africa's renewed focus on green energy. We're committed to supporting this transition, bringing our expertise and resources to help realise the country's renewable energy ambitions. The coming years will be crucial. As South Africa navigates this energy transition, it will need partners who understand both the local context and global best practices. I believe we're witnessing the beginning of a new chapter in South Africa's energy story. It's a narrative of innovation, sustainability, and economic growth. For investors and businesses alike, this presents an opportunity to be part of a transformative journey. South Africa's commitment to renewable energy isn't just a national issue - it's a global one. And it's a story we at Grovest are proud to be part of. #RenewableEnergy #SouthAfrica #SustainableInvestment #EnergyTransition #12B #Grovest #PioneeringOpportunities #TwelveB #Section12B #GreenEnergy

We’re excited to share the video from the recently concluded 97th Power Dialogue by The Electricity Hub, where our Country Director, Olu, Aruike Olu, took the stage as a distinguished panelist emphasizing the urgency of addressing the millions of Nigerians still without access to the grid. He highlighted how bringing power to communities—often before healthcare, road networks, or internet—can ignite profound transformations. As the operator of the largest fleet of mini-grids in the country, Husk Power Systems is at the forefront of this change, but there’s still much work to be done. Olu also pointed out the importance of strong policies and regulations as the bedrock of progress, drawing on lessons from Bihar, India, where successful strategies were implemented as far back as 2016. While catalytic capital like grants is essential, it is clear that these funds alone won’t be enough. The focus now must be on scaling up efforts and accelerating the pace of electrification across Nigeria.
