What do you do when drilling an unconsolidated calcareous formation in Algeria and experience total losses at 178 meters? What if standard cement plugs failed? This challenge required new thinking. Find out how control was regained by utilizing Newpark’s X-Prima squeeze, and drilling continued to 267m with pumps increased to 792 gal/min (50L/s). Blast furnace slag is used successfully inmud-to-cement conversion worldwide because of its economic, technical, andenvironmental advantages (Pessier etal.,1994). Slag-mix slurries were used as primary, temporary abandonment and sidetrack plug cements during prospectpredrilling in the Gulf of Mexico. However, the penetration rates were slower than expected when these plugs were drilled out, hence a basic study of its drilling properties was initiated. Slag-mix, solidified mud, and conventional class H Portland cement were evaluated under controlledlaboratory conditions to better understandand quantify differences in drillabilitybetween these two types of cement underrealistic downhole conditions. The objectives of this study were to refine bit selection and drilling practices for more cost effective slag-mix plug drilling. #Globechem #oilandgas #chemical #chemicalindustry #oilandgasindustry #waterfiltration #watermanagement #gashydratecontrol #wax #depostion #lubricants #oil #gas

In the oil and gas industry, Gilsonite plays a crucial role as a drilling fluid additive and in cementing systems. Key applications include: - Gilsonite serves as a shale stabilizer and fluid loss control agent in drilling fluids, aiding in preventing wellbore collapse and reducing fluid loss to the formation. - When added to cementing systems, Gilsonite enhances flexibility, prevents gas migration, and improves bonding strength and thermal stability of the cement. #OilandGas #DrillingFluids #Cementing #Gilsonite #IndustryApplications

Oil and Gas Terminology! The purpose of the possum belly is to slow the flow of the drilling fluid (after it has gained momentum from coming down through the flow line) so that it does not shoot off of the shale shakers. Possum bellies are generally used when bentonite or another form of "mud" is being used. During the use of freshwater or brine water, the flow line generally either goes straight to the reserve pit, or into the steel pits.

Drilling mud mixers from DC for drilling fluids and other drilling additives must be correctly blended and evenly homogenized before pumping down opening to execute their complex functions in oil & gas exploration. The practical, non-sheer DC tank mixing procedure for tedious mud mixing can be customized to fit any dimension or geometry tank. #JetMudMixer https://lnkd.in/e9886mht

#Mud_Weight In the oil industry, #mud_weight is the density of #drilling_fluids. It is one of the most important drilling fluids properties because it control formation pressure and also helps wellbore stability. Increase the mud weight(MW) it means increase the hidrostactic pressure (HP). HIDROSTACTIC PRESSURE (psi) = 0,052*MW*TVD Mud weight is normally measured and reported in pound per gallon (ppg), pound per cubic feet(pcf) or grams per milliliter (g/ml). In conventional drilling fluids, #barite is used to increase the density of mud. Although other additives such as #halite (salt) or #calcium_carbonate can also used. Mud weight can be decreased by dilution or solids control equipments such as an #industrial_centrifuge, #desilter, #desander and #shale_shaker. If there is insufficient drilling fluid density the well will be an underbalanced condition and wellbore may collapse. If the mud weight is too high it will cause formation to break and drilling fluids will be lost circulation into the formation fractures(#lost_circulation), Decrease in rate of penetration (#ROP) and formation demage. The most accurate method to measure the mud weight in the field is with a #Pressurized_mud_balance (image bellow) because we can have some air inside a fluid phase. 1moResolving total circulation losses in an unconsolidated calcareous formation at 178 meters is no small feat. The success of the X-Prima high fluid loss squeeze highlights its effectiveness in dealing with extreme permeability and maintaining wellbore stability. By increasing pump rates to 792 gal/min (50L/s) and resuming drilling to 267 meters, this approach not only mitigated the risk of further losses but also optimized the well construction process. It's a testament to the precision engineering and adaptive fluid technology that are essential in overcoming such Geotechnical challenges...
