Let's talk about news for a minute -- specifically #news online.
To start -- let us introduce ourselves --
👋🏻 We're former #journalists who moved to tech, but missed our first love -- news. So we started Forth, a news feed meant for news.
We loved Twitter, and all of the real time news and scoops and other journalisms, and miss it.
Today, it's great seeing new ideas being implemented in all of these platforms, and the proliferation of open protocols like ActivityPub.
But for news? We need a different approach...
Journalism is different than the hot takes and viral content that thrives on social media. Or, at least, it should be.
To be blunt -- the problem with everyone being able to post, is that everyone can post. We've all seen plenty of accounts that purport to report news, but......don't.
It's really easy to write "🚨BREAKING!🚨" -- but fact based reporting is harder. And as a reader, it can be really difficult to know the difference when scrolling.
"Why don't you just follow a bunch of people you trust?," you might ask.
And that's fair -- but you're missing a lot.
Most journalists are not famous. Especially the ones covering your community.
And the ones you follow -- do you know who they are? What their standards are?
That's one of the reasons we started Forth.
It's a news feed, but for news.
All posts come exclusively from verified journalists. They agree to our editorial policy.
Anyone can sign up to follow for free. Follow who you want -- but also *what* you want. Local news, tech, business, world, etc. Regardless of the topic, whether or not you know the reporter, all the posts are fact-based reporting that you can trust.
Give it a shot. We'd love to know what you think.
