"That range in stories makes the eclipse, as a news event, an opportunity for local news outlets. It’s an audience engagement opportunity, to serve current audiences and broaden appeal; it’s a business and marketing opportunity, to partner with community businesses and organizations on events and special products; it’s an opportunity for experimentation and innovation in editorial and business projects. And in 2024, with news fatigue on the rise, an event as wondrous as an eclipse is refreshing for reporters and audiences alike." https://bit.ly/3xAQ4q2

It's time to fill in the blanks between "digital audience" and "sustainable revenue." In my latest column for Current: News for Public Media, smart people tell us how public media organizations can raise money from digital, on-demand audiences. Some takeaways: 1. Michal Heiplik shows how Passport is bringing in 44 percent of new donors for public TV stations. (The NPR Network may help radio to catch up.) 2. Joyce MacDonald says major givers can be inspired by engaging a broad and diverse audience, and talks about the success of their coaching program, VeritUs. 3. Kristen Muller explains why LAist will keep moving ahead with its digital-audience focus.
Time is running out to solve public media's digital revenue puzzle - Current

Remember that securing media isn’t about what you want to say - it’s about what people want to hear. You may be doing things differently (just like everyone else). But what matters is who it impacts. In order to be newsworthy, it must affect communities and populations outside of your employees, partners, customers, investors, etc. VC: corporate.bro on IG and Corporate Bro on LinkedIn.
