Both blue and green hydrogen have a role to play in developing a sustainable low-carbon hydrogen market, Franck Neel, Executive Board Member Gas & Power, OMV Petrom, said in the ADIPEC Hydrogen Strategic Conference session. “We need to be pragmatic and less dogmatic. For low-carbon hydrogen – we should not talk about the colours but rather just low-carbon hydrogen – and how we can develop complementary technology. [We must] leave the market to decide which technology can fulfil demand at the lowest cost today. But we [also] need to enable the consumer to rise to use the low-carbon hydrogen. We need to find a balance to be pragmatic and enable blue hydrogen to create the infrastructure and demand, and then the green hydrogen, when it becomes competitive, can increase that demand,” he said.  #ADIPEC #ADNOC #EnergyTransition

A funding call has been announced by Scotland’s Net Zero Technology Centre (NZTC), with the intention of finding electroylser solutions that will improve hydrogen production efficiency. The NZTC is offering a maximum of £500,000 to suitable projects. The plan for the funding expense, is for it to be split between three to five technologies that have shown that their aim is to accelerate the development of solutions, which are aimed towards pilot or prototype level. The article below showcases one excellent way that an organisation has chosen to incentivise the progress of projects that are focusing on electrolysers. Despite a surge in focus on Hydrogen since 2021 as a key decarbonization lever for heavy industry - including significant public policy support in several major markets - only 4% of projects globally have entered the Final Investment Decision (FID) phase according to the the International Energy Agency (IEA). A significant roadblock for financing and FID is the overall cost of bringing these projects online. Together with EIT InnoEnergy, Capgemini conducted an extensive survey across more than 120 companies about what the largest levers are to reducing the cost of clean hydrogen so that we scale this critical technology to meet Net Zero objectives.
