Anti-racism is not a moment. It is a movement. The scenes we have experienced this August remind me of similar ones over the last few years - and in particular in 2020 as I was building the GEC Platform. For those in education, we know our children and young people will have experienced the summer in a range of ways. Some partaking in the riots (on either side) and some not even aware as parents and carers protect them from the ‘news’ (especially neurodivergent children who find the lack of routine enough of a challenge during the break). However, this is on us. Will you see this as a moment or a movement? ❓ Will you embed anti-racism, an understanding of socio-economic status and classism, look into universal design models and diversify not just your text books in the library but your staff & leadership bodies? ⁉️ If so, let us help. Let the Global Equality Collective - now 400 strong 💪🏿 making this the largest directory of experts when it comes to EDI & hyper-diversity. Just get in touch to find out more. 🌐 Also - my plan for this summer? I’m currently working on the data analysis of 2023/24. We’ve surveyed 22,000 voices (with no sales team!) in education & our data insights surface up the underserved in our system through our innovative and unique data 📊 sights. I’m working with the best in #AI as part of my doctoral thesis to best understand it and will be releasing it very soon! So if you want to understand the context of your school, trust or LA & have not joined up yet, now is the perfect time to move. 👣👣👣 #IntentionalInclusion #InclusionRevolution #AntiRacism #EDI #DEIJ #DEI #Teachers #SLT #edtech #CEMPDOC

As an educator, I am deeply committed to supporting everyone in exercising inclusive teaching and learning throughout their educational journey. Diversity, defined as the variety of differences among people, is essential to this process. It encompasses acceptance and respect of all those differences and understanding who we are as individuals. Contrary to today's media and societal beliefs, every individual possesses diverse dimensions regardless of their background, and each person deserves celebration for their individuality. Inclusion, however, is a choice. It’s a choice we make every day to ensure that everyone, from all walks of life, feels validated and respected. This choice requires conscious effort and intentional actions to create an inclusive environment. Inclusion is about creating an environment where diverse individuals can thrive, have a sense of belonging, and where we can contribute to building a more inclusive and equitable world. My goal is to challenge people’s assumptions and increase their ability to approach cultural understanding and the promotion of social justice. By bridging the gap between theory and practice, I strive to prepare everyone to navigate the complexities of a diverse and evolving society. #SocialTalk #Faculty #Diversity #Equity #Inclusion #Belonging #Access #RedefiningDEI #DEI #DEIB #DEIBA

About 30% of the youth we work with at Dan's Legacy are Queer and to help empower our team to provide informed services, we engaged with QMUNITY in our series of professional development workshops for staff. Lots of key takeaways for me in this online learning module, including: 1) 40% of 2SLGBTQIA+ people in Canada contemplated suicide (2018 stats) 2) In many religions (including Islam, Judaism, Christianity, and more) "...queer, transgender, and intersex folks were originally accepted and even celebrated (Islamic Society of North America, n.d.; Pattanaik, 2020)...it was not until colonialism's impact (across the world by many nations, not simply European ones) that [Queer] identities became stigmatized and erased." 3) "It is not uncommon for autistic and ADD/ADHD folks to be transgender or non-binary (Warrier et al., 2020). Since gender is a set of norms that differ based on the society and time we're in, neurodivergent (primarily those on the autism and attention deficit spectrum) individuals are less concerned with 'fitting in' to what may be considered arbitrary societal norms." These are just snippets of new learning for me, but there is much, much more to be gleaned from this workshop. I highly recommend this workshop - for more information, contact the folks at QMUNITY

Let's recall that education is a fundamental human right. It should be inclusive and accessible to all learners as a key step to build equitable societies. It's a great occasion to share again the #EurydiceEU report on diversity and inclusion in schools in Europe. It sheds light on targeted initiatives aimed at supporting those most vulnerable to disadvantage and discrimination: 👩🏫 Girls and boys 🧕 Students from diverse migrant, ethnic, and religious backgrounds 🏳️🌈 LGBTIQ+ students ♿ Students with special educational needs or disabilities The report presents a comparative overview of measures across 39 European education systems and highlights inspiring examples of recent progress across Europe.
