🚨 Upcoming SLCN Training + Pandemic’s Lasting Impact on Communication Skills 🚨 A recent report from Ofsted highlights the significant challenges faced by primary schools as they work to support children affected by the pandemic. According to the report, many children entering school today are struggling with speech, language, and communication difficulties, making it harder for them to express themselves, make friends, and succeed in lessons. Schools are adapting their curriculums to address these delays, but more specialist help is needed to bridge the gap in children’s development. Speech and Language Therapist working with SENCOs who are fed up with responding reactively to their SLCN, and want a system they can stick to
Becca our Specialist SEND Teacher is talking to us about SEN-related jargon! The graduated response is the process by which children’s support needs are identified and met at different levels through their time in school. All children in school have access to a universal level of support that includes things like routine adaptations to teaching, simple equipment adaptations and interventions that might be available to all (such as small group work for reading). What is considered ‘standard’ universal provision will vary a little across schools in different areas. Next comes targeted provision, where more specialist and individualised supports are put in place. These supports are identified and monitored through a process called ‘assess, plan, do, review’ Lastly comes specialist level provision, where targeted provision has not been able to meet the child’s needs, and a higher level of specialist involvement is needed and perhaps a more specialist education setting. It’s at this point that an EHCP may become necessary. Becca can support you with the EHCP process, see https://lnkd.in/drjUedtz for more details #speechandlanguage #speechandlanguagetherapy #speechandlanguagetherapist #speechtherapist #speechandlanguagecpd #SLCN #SLCNsystems #TeamSLCN #SLCNtribe #SEN #SEND #SENDInstagram #earlyyearseducator #primaryteaching #primaryteacher #primary #primaryheadteachers #primaryschool #ect #earlycareerteacher #earlycareerteachers #learningdisabilities #autismacceptance #downsyndrome #dldseeme #developmentallanguagedisorder

Addressing a Common Misconception in Adult Education As an adult educator, I'd like to dispel a prevalent myth that adult education is solely for individuals who struggle with literacy. This couldn't be further from the truth. Adult education encompasses a broad range of activities, including: - Professional development - Leisure pursuits - Community engagement - Vocational training - Personal growth - And many more….. In reality, adult education is a lifelong journey that begins at birth and continues until death. It's a continuous process of learning, adapting, and evolving. At every stage of our lives, we engage in some form of adult education, whether consciously or unconsciously. Let's work together to promote a more inclusive and accurate understanding of adult education. I think all kindergartens, primary and secondary education systems of the underdeveloped and developing countries should incorporate life skills such as cleaning, cooking and other household chores in their school curriculum and then articulate and implement it in a safe and ethically accurate manner. Having done this will prepare the kids and children to live happily in any complex situation and life as our world is changing rapidly and implementing these practical life lessons help children become independent and resilient. Learning by doing and active learning is something that past and contemporary education thinkers put forward and advocate for as they experienced, experiment and wrote extensively about it. Today's children in schools (K-12) prefer and prioritize hands-on activities and active learning over lengthy explanations and lectures which do not include practical and learning engagement activities

One of the greatest lies some old teachers tell themselves is that, they are old in the field and have much more to offer than the new bees. Being old in the field without getting acquainted with the recent innovations doesn’t make you different from ordinary people who haven’t taught before. As time goes on, you get to forget what you were taught. Also, major changes are made almost every year. Years ago, people were admitted in the teacher training school with the First School Leaving Certificate as the minimum certificate. It later on went up to ordinary level and now the minimum is the Advanced level. You can’t compare teachers of 20 years ago who didn’t do anything to adapt to the changes made, and the teachers from 2years till now. Teachers can acquaint themselves with innovations if they: 1) Read books 2)Attend classes related to the field 3)Consult resource persons 4) Carry out research 5)Attend pedagogic seminars and workshops. All of these will equip you with all the innovations made When you keep learning, you keep rising and keep growing.
