I don't know about you but IT is 24/7 and cyber has just been added on top. Growing visibility (which is good) is only adding to the workload. Add audit activities and we have reached saturation. Sensible conversations about scope, scale and impact need to be had internally and with external parties so that the limited resources we have can focus on what's important and have the biggest improvement in cyber posture, rather than ticking boxes. Easier said than done. #cyber #cyberresources #cyberposture

Today I want to stress (again) something that is very close to my heart as a trained psychologist: Burnout among security teams. This isn't just a trending topic; it's a pressing concern that I'm passionate about and frequently discuss with IT colleagues (e.g. very recently with Jinan Budge and Peter Coroneos). Cybersecurity professionals are navigating a stormy sea: They're not only faced with a talent vacuum, but they're also combating sophisticated cyberattacks that grow bolder by the day. And as the cost of cybercrime escalates, their emotional load and level of stress becomes even heavier. Consider these stats about the scale of burnout across security professionals: 📊 63% of cybersecurity professionals feel the weight of increasing cyber threats. (SoSafe Human Risk Review 2023) 📉 A staggering 60% of organizations struggle to hold onto their skilled cybersecurity minds, with job-related stress being a primary exit reason. (ISACA) 🚨 We're looking at a colossal shortfall of 3.5 million workers in the cybersecurity sector, amplifying the strain on current teams. (Chartered Institute of Information Security) For a deeper dive into this topic, our latest article offers a holistic view, shedding light on the reasons, data, and potential remedies. In my opinion, there is not a fast “solution” of this topic - as the lack of skilled workers especially in the tech area implies structural problems as well. However, there are many concepts to relief security professionals through automation, enough resources for security teams, top management awareness - and of course, through an educated and aware workforce. 👉 https://lnkd.in/eW82KRwH #CyberSecurity #Burnout #SecurityProfessionals #SecurityAwareness

Cybersecurity is a career field filled with people who are passionate about what we do, but has also approached a breaking point for many due to the constant demands on our time and talent with often very little investment in treasure. Burnout impacts more than just the employee - it impacts the security of data, devices, and systems. It impacts public safety and national security. Cyber professionals are being asked to do more and more in a world of increasingly sophisticated threats. What’s the answer to this problem? I could say skill more people and throw more money at the problem…but that is only a bandaid. We cannot stop the cyber criminals and threat actors. They’ll always be there. But, we CAN increase the speed of information sharing and collaboration. “Facilitating interactions that allow [cyber professionals] to exchange ideas and teach each other enhances both employee well-being and the health of the cybersecurity program as a whole.” #Cybersecurity #burnout #informationsharing #collaboration https://lnkd.in/gF-rT2Dt
