Here’s what one worker shared: "I know I play a crucial role in preserving and saving the environment for future generations. The 2024 Deskless Worker Pulse, a research report by Jem HR, has revealed that while low wages and public transport are problematic for South Africa's deskless workers, only 2% don't enjoy their jobs. Representing 75% of the national workforce, deskless workers fill roles in the food, hygiene, security, logistics, retail and other sectors. The 2024 Deskless Worker Pulse surveyed 1600 deskless South African workers and the HR teams who support them. It found that despite many having to start their day as early as 3am to get to work, 98% of deskless workers enjoy their jobs. “These are essential workers who often operate under challenging conditions,” states Nonsuku Mthimkhulu, head of Customer at Jem, a WhatsApp-based HR and employee benefits platform for frontline workforces. “They battle to make ends meet, earning around R5,000 to R10,000 p/m,” Mthimkhulu adds. “They’re often in public-facing roles, depend on erratic public transport, and seldom have reliable access to computers or company emails.” Read the full article on Bizcommunity: https://lnkd.in/dQqBRmpG #DesklessWorkforce
