This is actually a lesson in leadership & management we taught our ROTC cadets/ soon-to-be Second Lieutenants. The lesson set was titled "Cross Cultural Competency" and was designed to teach them about some of the foreign cultures they were likely to encounter in their first duty assignments, but also (and perhaps more importantly) how to respect & operate within those cultural boundaries & values without forsaking our own. While we weren't (necessarily) trying to influence or change their culture in totality, it was (and is) a huge part of earning respect by giving respect, and thus perhaps influencing them to appreciate & adopt parts of our culture. What are specific actions you recommend or have successfully practiced to influence and change culture, as a consultant or a new leader? #culture #leadership #leadershipdevelopment #leaderdevelopment #leadershiptraining #leadershipandmanagement

Most days, I’m in a black polo and cargo pants. That’s our Echelon Front culture. We show up professional, but don’t sweat about our attire. But a few years back, I was working with a company that took business attire much more seriously. Not until I arrived onsite did I realize that everyone at the company wore suits, every day. Casual dress meant they could only ditch the tie. If I wanted to deliver our Echelon Front leadership training and impact the company, I needed to adapt to their culture, rather than force them to adapt ours. So, I went to the nearest Mens Wearhouse and found the best suit I could off the rack. A few hours later, I shared the 4 Laws of Combat from Extreme Ownership and trained their leaders to succeed and win. Don’t impose culture. Allow yourself to be influenced it so you can influence it in return. #leadership #workplace #culture

Authentic recognition holds immense value! It goes beyond a simple "good job" message; it involves speaking positively about individuals even in their absence. As a leader, it takes confidence to uplift those under your guidance, understanding that their success reflects positively on your leadership. It's often underestimated how crucial it is to empower those you lead to surpass even your own achievements. Leadership isn't about selfishly hoarding success; rather, it's about cultivating and nurturing other leaders. Be a mentor, a sponsor, and above all, recognize and appreciate those entrusted to your care. #recognitionmatters #leadershipdevelopment

Many leaders overlook the profound impact of recognizing their team's efforts and contributions. Without regular acknowledgment, even the most dedicated employees can feel undervalued, leading to decreased morale and engagement. Former CEO of Yum! Brands David Novak's story with Bob, a dedicated employee unaware of his positive impact within the organization, highlights this oversight and emphasizes the importance of a recognition-focused culture. By celebrating and acknowledging your team's hard work, you can significantly boost their motivation and sense of belonging. How do you incorporate recognition into your leadership style? Share your experiences and thoughts on the power of recognition in leadership. #LeadingWithVulnerability #leadership #EmployeeRecognition #Acknowledgement

As I enjoyed the crisp, cold, sunny day at Virginia Beach today, I observed a slice of life that mirrors an essential leadership principle. The boardwalk was buzzing with activities suitable for this time of year: people were soaking in the beautiful scenery, breathing in the fresh air, and getting their exercise. Most of us, myself included, were dressed in layers. Yet, a group of young men walked bare-chested, unbothered by the cold. This contrast reflects a truth about leadership and management. Our role as leaders is to set clear goals and foster an environment where creativity can flourish. The way we achieve objectives should allow for flexibility, respecting individual approaches. Just as beachgoers choose their attire based on what makes them comfortable, employees should be encouraged to meet their targets in the way that best leverages their unique abilities. Promoting this diversity in approach not only fosters innovation but also cultivates a more dynamic and resilient team. Let's emulate this lesson from the beach: set clear expectations, then stand back and watch as each team member meets them in their own unique way. #Leadership #Management #Creativity #Teamwork #VirginiaBeach

Recommended summer ☀️ reading for you. “High heels and low blows” - A fun, brilliantly written easy read from a talented first time author (I’m biased- Jill Valentine is my cousin 😜). With tales of dodgy deals, office sexism, corporate backstabbing, PR and marketing coverups, and company leadership traits (good and bad) you’ll be sure to recognise, this book is highly relevant to anyone working in todays business world, highlighting important issues still found in most workplaces today. 👠🥊 ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eZjD-iW4

Making yourself familiar with, but more importantly TO those you want to impact is one of the easiest and quickest ways to create the most positive form of culture as it’s derived from the comfort everyone has with you. While I know the above is NOT exactly the same angle mentioned by the original author, but think about something simple you can do to have a positive impact on someone else… I do what I call a ‘walk about’ and it’s super simple, but has big results in my opinion. The culture around all of this is created by default… not forced. #CultureCreators #CumtureKeepers
