It's essential to focus on the reality of the situation and prioritize measures to protect individuals with symptomatic and asymptomatic disabilities, whether they are experiencing symptoms or not. The government and attorneys should not obstruct evidence-based monitoring that could safeguard the health and well-being of individuals with disabilities. It's crucial to address these issues head-on and ensure that everyone has access to the necessary resources and protections to maintain their health and safety.

Please take a minute to ask Congress to support better healthcare for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities at https://lnkd.in/eUdxDZxh. From The Arc of the United States: People with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) have been left behind by our nation’s healthcare system. Compared to people without disabilities, people with IDD: ~ Have a harder time finding providers ~ Wait longer to get medical appointments, especially for dental and mental health services ~ Receive poorer quality care from providers who have little training in how to meet their needs The Healthcare Extension and Accessibility for Developmentally Disabled and Underserved Population (HEADs UP) Act—HR 3380—would designate people with IDD as a medically underserved population. It would unlock urgently needed federal resources to improve healthcare for people with IDD. It would help increase the number of healthcare providers who serve people with IDD by incentivizing doctors and dentists to treat people with IDD and by providing them with better training. It would also make healthcare for people with IDD a national priority for federal research. Urge your members of Congress to support the HEADs UP Act today at https://lnkd.in/eUdxDZxh ... Thank you!

The Justice Department has proposed a rule under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) to enhance access to medical diagnostic equipment (MDE) for people with disabilities. MDE includes equipment like examination tables, weight scales, dental chairs, x-ray machines, and mammography equipment. Accessible MDE is crucial for equal medical care access, and the rule suggests technical standards for public entities, such as hospitals, to meet ADA obligations. The department aims to address complaints from individuals with disabilities who faced obstacles, like inaccurate weight measurements, due to inaccessible MDE. U.S. Department of Justice has published a final rule under Title ll of the Americans with Disabilities Act to improve access to medical diagnostic equipment (MDE) for people with disabilities. The rule clarifies how public entities that use MDE, such as hospitals and health care clinics operated by state or local governments, can meet their obligations to ensure accessibility under the ADA. The department has heard from many individuals with disabilities who have been denied basic, critically important health care services because medical providers lacked accessible MDE. The final rule will soon be available for review on the website and a fact sheet will be available on ADA.gov. https://lnkd.in/gZg5Qs56 #ADA #Accessibility #MDEs
