🎨 Cardonald Primary School pupil wins our Christmas Card competition! 🎄 Huge congratulations to Clara Ferrie Rafferty, age 9, from Cardonald Primary who has won NHS 24’s annual Christmas card competition. 🎉 Clara's beautiful design, featuring the snowy Kelpies in Grangemouth, perfectly captured the theme of 'I'm dreaming of a Scottish Christmas'. Clara received an art set for her winning entry and her artwork will be used as NHS 24's official Christmas Card for 2024! Also a big shoutout to our talented runners-up: Emilia Spencer Walters also from Cardonald Primary, Lucy Henderson from Hillington Primary, and Charles Patrick Boyce from Our Lady of the Rosary Primary. Each of these young artists received a set of colouring pens for their creative efforts. NHS 24 representatives, including Engagement Manager Mark Conway and Anne MacDougall, Chair of NHS 24’s Public Partnership Forum, visited Cardonald Primary to personally congratulate Clara and present her with her prize. Mark Conway said, “The creativity and quality of all this year’s entries were exceptionally impressive. A huge thanks to all the children and schools who participated. It was a tough decision, but Clara’s design perfectly captured the theme of the competition. Congratulations to Clara and all our runners-up for their excellent work.” 👏

Yesterday I presented my third poster on behalf of Sam Lee and Michael Curtin at CSU. Measuring participation is complex, in part because involvement is a personal experience. While we should always ask the child as a first point of call, sometimes that’s not possible or practical. Understanding the indicators of involvement from the perspective of an observer is the first step to developing an assessment of sports participation which is desperately needed to improve the reach and impact of our research. Attendance is more straightforward, however as we saw in my previous poster, current tools don’t focus on sport and PA. Defining the type, level and location of participation will help us develop a tool to better understand children’s current participation, and measure change over time, or after intervention.

Governor Ron DeSantis has vetoed all Arts and Culture grants in Florida so let's look at the numbers... Per a study by Americans for the Arts, Florida's Arts and Culture industry generated $5.8 billion of economic activity, including $2.9 billion by nonprofit Arts and Culture organizations. This economic activity supports 91,720 full-time jobs and generates $3.8 billion in resident household income in Florida alone. Florida's Arts and Culture industry delivered $694.7 million in local, state, and federal government revenue. And in Sarasota, FL alone, my former home, the arts and culture industry generated $342,685,487 of economic activity into the community. Beyond attending performances, the average ticket buyer spends an additional $46.21 per person in event related expenditures (lodging, restaurants, shopping, etc... It's a ripple effect folks!) But, per the Governor's logic, an investment of $32 MILLION to generate a return of over almost $700M in government revenue was not in the best interest of the state of Florida?!?! BRAVO to advocates like Richard Russell, Brian Hersh, and all my other colleagues and friends in Sarasota who continue to demonstrate how a healthy arts and culture industry drives a healthy economy. https://lnkd.in/gZ98X4j7?
