“A living dog is better than a dead lion.” This quote resonated with me this past weekend at the CNS Essentials course, where I had the privilege of connecting with residents and fellows transitioning into practice. One of the faculty members shared it as a powerful reminder: no matter how strong or mighty we may appear, what matters most is being alive, active, and willing to keep learning. 🏆 As leaders, we often have to navigate the balance between strength and humility. There are moments when we’re tempted to come to the table with the roar of a lion—but more often than not, true leadership requires us to lead with humility. 🐾 In healthcare, especially when guiding teams and shaping the future of patient care, there’s a give-and-take. We need to listen, adapt, and be willing to be wrong at times. It's in those moments of quiet humility—not in standing on past accomplishments—that we build trust and real influence.
