Today is the International Day of Charity. According to the United Nations website, the International Day of Charity was established with the objective of sensitizing and mobilizing people, NGOs, and stakeholders all around the world to to help others through volunteer and philanthropic activities. The date of September 5th was chosen in order to commemorate the anniversary of the passing away of Mother Teresa of Calcutta, who received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979. Today, let's ask ourselves how we can best serve others. Very interesting discussion with Conor Fitzgerald yesterday about this data - none of which is revelatory - but where do we go from here in #artsandculture? It's easy to write off the success of hospitals and universities as being more "naturally" the recipients of #charity. Respectfully, I disagree. Our hospitals and universities work at this, and they work at this hard. As an active member of Canadian Association of Gift Planners (CAGP) I'm in the room to see not just how the sausage gets made, but how certain organizations have been very successful at raising #donations via various funding models. ...and guess what? They're not all hospitals and universities. The National Ballet of Canada, Royal Ontario Museum are both organizations that have taken the ball of #plannedgiving and ran with it (shout-out to Richard J. Lefebvre, CFRE and Janice L. Correa respectively). Not every arts org has the resources or staff of a National Ballet or ROM, of course, but how can we learn from our successful peers in a scalable way? Here's a few thoughts I have that can be implemented by any arts org: 1. Have you educated your donors on #taxefficient ways of giving? Let's assume you don't have the resources to set up security donations directly, do your donors know they can use an intermediary like CanadaHelps? 2. Are you engaging not just the donor, but the donor's *advisors* when discussing transformational gifts? They may also be key centres of influence for future donors. (psst, as one of those people, yes, I do want to be welcomed to the table) 3. Have you ever had the talk of a #legacygift with a donor? Not for the "big cheque" years from now... but are you aware the data shows legacy donors are MORE likely to increase their yearly giving? ...and most importantly, are your leadership and board aware of this? Hospitals and universities are not our enemies, but their successes in these areas can be our models in the #arts to have better, stronger, and more supportive donor relations. #philanthropy #givingback #donors #fundraising

What gives people a reason to give? 🎁🫶 Our National Giving Study 2023 surveyed 1,951 respondents and 112 focus group participants to find out just that: how much, how often, and in what ways people in Singapore give, as well as what drives and holds back their giving behaviour.     Those who were more likely to donate and volunteer are those:     • who donated or volunteered as children; 👦🏽👧🏽   • are interested in social issues; 📰⚖️  • who participate actively in religious life; 🙏🏿🙌🏾  • and who trust charities and those outside their own social circles.🤝     We also found that some younger Singaporeans have taken to new, alternative ways of giving which require smaller time and financial commitments.     To learn more, read our full PDF report at https://lnkd.in/gAZYbNTt -  and share your thoughts with us here! #nationalgivingstudy #nationalgivingstudy2023 #ngs2023 #nonprofit #charity #nvpc #cityofgood #singapore

Over 70% of people planning to donate over Christmas: More than 7 in 10 people are planning to donate over Christmas, according to a new report, with 42% of those surveyed saying they are more likely to give at this time of year than at others.

Educational Barriers: Hunger and malnutrition create significant barriers to education for African children, disrupting their concentration and academic performance while also diminishing school attendance rates. Chronic hunger frequently leads to school dropout rates, perpetuating the cycle of poverty by depriving children of opportunities for upward social mobility and economic empowerment. These educational setbacks further entrench disparities and hinder the development of human capital essential for sustainable progress in Africa.
