Not everyone can be a leader. The skills should be learn and improvise over time. As simple as choosing how to address the issues to a bigger challenge when dealing with your team member.
As someone that experience toxic environment in workplace, I would say any words and phrases use to encounter during work do really matter. How confidence you are with your self but if someone keep giving you indirect negative feedback, it will eventually making you doubt yourself.
So please be the one that can lead instead of bossing around. At the end of the day, giving your team a good and positive remarks actually help a lot in the overall performance. Choose how to deal with a certain circumstances without downgrading the person.

Words matter. Sometimes a simple rephrasing makes a tremendous difference in not triggering someone. When I look at the Leader vs. Boss approaches:
> Leaders see and hear Team Members and are there to support, guide,
and grow Team Members.
> Bosses see and hear themselves and are holding on, with a death grip,
on the old tell and command method.
If you walk and sound like a Leader -- make sure to stay humble and keep growing as your impact will grow along with you.
If you walk and sound like a Boss -- that may 'sound powerful' and it is -- unfortunately, no matter how you position it, the impact will be a trail of remains you shouldn't be proud of when looking back on your life. It sounds like you are an 'empire builder', a 'diminisher', or possibly an 'accidental diminisher' (check out Liz Wiseman's Multipliers). It may not be too late to have people follow you because they want to and not because they have to -- and are trying to find a way to get as far away from you as possible. Might be an opportunity to start growing in self-awareness and even offer reflections and solutions of how to transition from a Boss to a Leader.
Food for thought! 😉
