The r-word is one such term that is not just outdated but offensive, discriminatory, and harmful to people with disabilities. Using this word perpetuates negative stereotypes and dehumanizes individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. It reinforces stigma and promotes a culture where people with disabilities are seen as less capable or worthy of respect. Let’s be clear—this word is never okay to use, in any context. It’s not just about being "politically correct," it’s about respecting the dignity of others. By removing it from our vocabulary, we take one step closer to a more inclusive world for people of all abilities. Most companies have almost no idea how many of their employees have disabilities. As this stat shows, it's most likely somewhere between 15-25%. So without a disability focus or practice, or without a culture that appreciates and values those with Disabilites, most if not all of those employees feel undervalued and potentially are not achieving to the capabilities they were hired for. #disabilityawareness #disabilityemployment
