The influence of the CCP on the European elections: Report. “China, though newer to electoral interference in Europe compared to Russia, is increasingly sophisticated and active in its attempts to influence European elections and decision-making through various means, including political influence, information manipulation, bribery and espionage,” researchers said in a recent report from the Association for International Affairs, a Prague-based think tank. The study comes just days before the European Parliament election. Almost 400 million voters across Europe are preparing to head to the polls from June 6 to 9 to choose lawmakers to represent them in the European Parliament for the next five years. 2024 is the year of super elections - globally over 97 countries will organise elections at national levels !! Of the 97+ countries organising election, atleast 8 are among the top 10 most populous nations globally. Geostrategically 10 of the 97+ countries is a key player in the global security apparatus and system. While some elections have and will usher in regime change (case of Belgium, Great Britain, Sénégal, Taiwan et cetera), others will lead to fundamental system changes - Sénégal, possibly France, Iran and maybe the US with MAGA Project 2025! With an extremely high level of apathy and distrust in political institions and politicians are the youths not resigning their fate?? So, are these elections therefore true opportunities. Are the chosen political elites really interested in improving the human condition in these challenging political, socio-economic and environmental era ?? What's really going to change and what's going to stay the same?? #EU Elections #Politics matters #UK Elections #Elections France #US Elections #

Last month's European Union Parliamentary elections were conducted fairly and peacefully, but they were not wholly immune from a wave of election-related disinformation. GDI observed narratives that aimed to undermine democratic processes, spread hostile conspiracy theories about key institutions and individuals, and benefit foreign actors like Russia by weakening support for the bloc. These narratives continue to pose a threat to democracy even after the polls have closed. In order to safeguard future elections, policymakers should take note of lessons learned in the aftermath of this latest round. GDI's new report details the kinds of disinformation narratives and tactics most successful in these elections, as well as an analysis of current and proposed policy measures to fight election disinformation. The elections for the European Parliament concluded yesterday. After years of dominance from center-left leaning parties, the pendular movement declared right leaning parties as winners. Immigration and the war in Ukraine among other items has been determinant to their victory. In France, President Macron has disolved the country’s National Assembly and called for elections after Marie LePen victory. Other countries may follow with national elections as the results seem to indicate the discontent with current policies. European markets opened today on the negative side, due to an increase in uncertainty. Lively discussion with the great Matthew Miller (note the impressive fluency of his political acronyms!) on Bloomberg News this week to discuss the EU parliamentary elections. I made the point that while the far right has made gains in these elections, the centre has held firm. We are not seeing a uniform trend across the 27 states and far right parties in Poland, Sweden and the Netherlands did not have a good day at the polls. I see the geopolitical risk premium being limited to France and some specific sectors. #PoliticalDiscussion #EUPartliamentaryElections #GeopoliticalRisk #FarRightPolitics #EuropeanPolitics #ElectionAnalysis #PoliticalTrends #CenterPolitics #EU27 #FrancePolitics

The 2024 European elections were characterised by a high voter turnout and intense political debates. Although in some countries, such as Germany and France, the extreme right had a strong result, overall, their gains were less than predicted and it would be an exaggeration to talk of a ‘right-wing surge’. In other words, this was not a good evening for Putin and Xi, because despite their best efforts, the political centre (EPP, S&D, and Renew) has held and will continue to build a pro-European majority. A clear signal to the world: the EU remains a stable and unified force. Read our full #analysis of the elections here: https://lnkd.in/d3P5CyEb #europeanelections

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: Ahead of the U.S. elections, adversaries are weaponizing social media to gain political sway. Russian and Iranian efforts have become increasingly aggressive and transparent. However, China appears to have taken a more carefully calculated and nuanced approach. China’s seeming disinformation efforts have little to do with positioning one political candidate as preferable to another. Rather, the country’s maneuvers may aim to undermine trust in voting systems, elections and America, in general; amplifying criticism and sowing discord. Spamouflage In recent months, the Chinese disinformation network, known as Spamouflage, has pursued “advanced deceptive behavior.” It has ...
