2024 is the year of super elections - globally over 97 countries will organise elections at national levels !! Of the 97+ countries organising election, atleast 8 are among the top 10 most populous nations globally. Geostrategically 10 of the 97+ countries is a key player in the global security apparatus and system. While some elections have and will usher in regime change (case of Belgium, Great Britain, Sénégal, Taiwan et cetera), others will lead to fundamental system changes - Sénégal, possibly France, Iran and maybe the US with MAGA Project 2025! With an extremely high level of apathy and distrust in political institions and politicians are the youths not resigning their fate?? So, are these elections therefore true opportunities. Are the chosen political elites really interested in improving the human condition in these challenging political, socio-economic and environmental era ?? The 2024 European elections were characterised by a high voter turnout and intense political debates. Although in some countries, such as Germany and France, the extreme right had a strong result, overall, their gains were less than predicted and it would be an exaggeration to talk of a ‘right-wing surge’. In other words, this was not a good evening for Putin and Xi, because despite their best efforts, the political centre (EPP, S&D, and Renew) has held and will continue to build a pro-European majority. The elections for the European Parliament concluded yesterday. After years of dominance from center-left leaning parties, the pendular movement declared right leaning parties as winners. Immigration and the war in Ukraine among other items has been determinant to their victory. In France, President Macron has disolved the country’s National Assembly and called for elections after Marie LePen victory. Other countries may follow with national elections as the results seem to indicate the discontent with current policies. European markets opened today on the negative side, due to an increase in uncertainty. The influence of the CCP on the European elections: Report. “China, though newer to electoral interference in Europe compared to Russia, is increasingly sophisticated and active in its attempts to influence European elections and decision-making through various means, including political influence, information manipulation, bribery and espionage,” researchers said in a recent report from the Association for International Affairs, a Prague-based think tank. The study comes just days before the European Parliament election. Almost 400 million voters across Europe are preparing to head to the polls from June 6 to 9 to choose lawmakers to represent them in the European Parliament for the next five years. They went out to vote for 50 members of parliament, and decide the direction the country will take over the next four years. But its not just local issues that are on the ballot. The election is also being seen as a referendum on China. The Solomon Islands, under their Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare, have been growing close to China over the last 5 years. The #EUelections2024 begin today. The voting dates changes between 6-9 June, voting (start) age changes between 16-18, candidacy age (start) changes between 18-25 by the member countries. It is always said that the EU is the heart of the democracy. But the turnout data is very low as seen in the graph.
