Congratulations to Life Science Washington for being awarded a Federal and State Technology (FAST) Partnership Program grant from the US Small Business Administration! Life Science Washington was one of 49 organizations nationwide awarded a total of $9M in grants to help underserved communities access development funding and innovative research. FAST’s objective is to improve outcomes for underserved communities by increasing participation from woman-owned, rural-based, or socially or economically disadvantaged small businesses through the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and the Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs, which are known as "America’s Seed Fund." We are looking forward to engaging with Marc Cummings, President & CEO of Life Science Washington at our WEDA Membership virtual meeting on October 18. Washington State's life science industry has been a global leader in developing transformative medical breakthroughs and advancing global health for more than 50 years. The convergence of cutting-edge research institutions, technology and a deep ecosystem of more than 1,180 life science companies in Washington state has elevated Washington to be one of the top 10 life science clusters in the nation. https://lnkd.in/g6M3Ciii

Associate Professor at Beaumont Health Department of Cardiovascular Medicine, Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine Adjunct Faculty: University of Virginia
A brilliant group of electrophysiologists who have distinguished themselves as innovators and entrepreneurs shared their journey and lessons learnt: 1. Entrepreneurship is like a game of labyrinth . The size of the ball is the clinical impact. There is a lot to learn about time lines and timing. 2. Universities offer safe havens for patent protection . Negotiate your share. Always. Every time. 3. For smaller population impact like pediatric EP, try to find dissimilar populations which may benefit like the geriatric population. Greater the impact, higher the interest. 4. Create your own advisory board. There may be value in 1:1 interaction. 5. For start ups, everyone has to do everything. Can’t have a high paying CEO who won’t help with grant writing. Else you will burn your funds up. Great audience participation at #HRX2024 Mohammed Shameer Iqbal
