🔥 Wave Motion Launch Corporation has announced a further $1.6 million in funding to develop the US Army’s next tactical indirect fire capability. The American startup said it is working with the service’s DEVCOM Armaments Center to prototype and test a version of its jet gun technology. The Jet gun is a weapon that fires a jet of supersonic gas that can push a projectile toward its target at very high speeds. Since there is no physical structure or barrel surrounding the projectile, the system has the potential to be 90 percent more compact than conventional rockets or cannons of equivalent power. The K9 Self-Propelled Howitzer has proven its interoperability with the Raytheon M982A1 Excalibur Precision Guided Extended Range 155mm Artillery Projectile. The live-firing test was carried out in April at the U.S Army Yuma Proving Ground near the Arizona-California border. The test was designed to prove K9 artillery’s interoperability with Excalibur I b projectiles to hit a target nearly 50 kilometers away in multiple fuze function modes. As a result, a projectile launched from the K9 (VIDAR for the Norwegian Army) destroyed target with a less than one-meter circular error probability, or CEP, in the Point Detonating mode, while the other exploded just 5 meters above the target to destroy it in the Height of Burst mode.   Following the test, the K9 has become one of the world’s few artillery systems proven to be operating with the sophisticated guided munitions that have been deployed since 2014.   Check the spectacular video footage of the testing.
