QC in smart cities - yes or no? In short: Probably yes, once AI runs well. A bit longer: There are two criteria for quantum to make business sense: 1. Size of individual processing task 2. Frequency of the processing task to be executed For example if we need to do a task once, even if it takes a few days to run - so what - no large impact to be had (low frequency). At the same time, if we just need to color a chart, likely no need for quantum at this point (small task size). Smart cities are a promising use case for quantum, as the task size and frequency are large. However at this point even most classical AI tasks are only in pilot stages - like autonomous driving in certain neighborhoods, limited energy optimization, limited traffic optimization, etc. So we first need more data. Much more data. Then we move to full-scale AI applications. Quantum will follow closely. It is a much shorter step going from classical AI to quantum than it is going from no/limited AI to quantum. #quantumcomputing #smartcities
