Big thanks to the Norwegian embassy for hosting the joint TNC, TFA, and UNEP policy workshop on Innovative Finance Pathways to Support Transition to Sustainable Supply Chains in South America last week in Brussels. Comprised of three sessions, the workshop highlighted the opportunity to achieve widespread sustainable commodity production in soy and cattle at scale, and the innovative finance pathways to make it possible. With the landmark EUDR legislation creating increasing momentum behind deforestation-free supply chains, these opportunities are more accessible than ever before.

A circular bioeconomy reduces the EU’s dependency on fossil fuels and enhances strategic autonomy. In fact, the circular bioeconomy is already contributing to the EU's green goals and enabling the green transition. What we now need is for this for the next EU mandate period to take policy actions allowing Europe to fully benefit from a prospering circular bioeconomy. Point 1️⃣ of our three-point Manifesto makes clear what needs to be done to grow the #GreenEconomy👇 https://zurl.co/SnIh

In our latest BGP study, we examine the growing impact of carbon pricing on the dairy industry. To align with the Paris Climate Agreement goals by 2040, carbon costs are projected to reach €180 per ton of CO2 emissions—nearly triple today’s rates. 🌍 Denmark is already leading the charge, becoming the first country to implement a carbon tax on dairy production starting in 2030. As carbon costs rise, businesses will need to decide whether to absorb the additional expenses, pass them on to consumers, or shift towards more sustainable practices. As carbon pricing continues to increase, the move towards sustainable dairy alternatives is becoming a critical business imperative. Early adopters will gain a competitive edge, while others risk falling behind in this evolving landscape. Is your business ready for the future of carbon pricing? 🔗 Read our full study to explore how carbon pricing could shape the future of dairy production. Link in comments.

On Monday, I reported to the European Parliament's Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety in Brussels on the priorities of the Hungarian EU Presidency on environment and climate policy and the state of play of the ongoing legislative dossiers. A key objective of the Hungarian Presidency is to strengthen Europe's competitiveness, which is essential for a successful green transition. In addition, there will be a strong focus on promoting sustainable growth, including the transition to a circular economy, promoting the green and digital transition and reducing dependence on external resources. Among the steps towards a circular economy, we will encourage the promotion of recycling and the development of high quality waste collection and recycling systems based on new and innovative solutions. #europeanparliament

Exciting news!🌍European Commission applauds the provisional agreement between the European Parliament and the Council on the EU's first-ever voluntary framework for certifying high-quality carbon removals. 📢 In the past weeks, EU legislators agreed on a new certification framework for carbon removal to enhance innovative technologies and carbon farming in line with the EU's climate, environmental, and zero-pollution objectives. 🌿 This approach will also lower the level of greenwashing while increasing the potential for business, as stated by the EU Council. EU-wide certification scheme for carbon removals categorizes awarded units into : ➡ Permanent carbon removal ➡ Temporary carbon storage in durable products ➡ Temporary carbon storage from carbon farming ➡ Reduction of soil emissions, which include not only carbon but also nitrous oxide. 🎯 The new framework aims to enhance the accuracy, transparency, and monitoring capabilities of carbon removal processes in the European Union. It emphasizes the importance of accurate quantification, attaining 35-year storage target, exceeding current standards, and contributing to wider sustainability goals. 🎯 Another objective of the framework is to facilitate innovative public and private financing, subject to formal approval by the European Parliament and Council. 📎 For more information you can visit European Commission website: https://lnkd.in/g8fGNZAw #ClimateAction #EUClimatePolicy #EUwidecertificationscheme #europeancommission
