Question for people in higher ed. - in speech-language therapy or similar type of fields: What type of structure/ group/ position (outside of advising and university provided disability services) do programs offer students who express needing additional support in academic and clinical experiences? Another way to ask this is if you were a recent graduate of a program, what do you wish you had as support in your department?

What factors are associated with stress and depression among frontline early care and education staff? New Chapin Hall research shows teacher stress levels were not associated with how racially concordant teachers were with their students: https://lnkd.in/gQ-sy_5v 4 variables that were associated with lower job stress : - lower wages - working part time - being Hispanic - for teachers with household incomes above $30,000, having a greater variety of student racial and ethnic diversity in the classroom Lower teacher depression levels were associated with higher racial concordance between teachers and students. The other associated variables were: - lower staff turnover at a center - being Hispanic or Asian

Psychological Coach: Development & Transition. Educational CPD: Student Wellbeing. MSc Psychology of Mental Health and Wellbeing (GMBPsS).
There is a pressing need for a greater number of Educational Psychologists, as well as equitable access to them. The application window for the funded training (EPFT) scheme is now open. If you are considering it, and it’s a viable option for you, I encourage you to head over to the Association of Educational Psychologists website for more information: https://lnkd.in/dVmA77Yr I have considered this route so I recognise the hurdles*: 🎯 There are only 12 universities in England that offer the course, each of which offer around 16-17 places per year. 🎯 There are only 204 funded places available in total and it is a 6-year commitment (3 years’ professional doctorate + 3 years’ post-qualification employment in a local authority). 🎯 The overall success rate for 2023 was 16% of applicants, with some of the more oversubscribed universities having a success rate of 4-5%. 🎯 There appears to be only one university that offers self-funded places, at a cost of over £19,000 for the first year of tuition, plus around £9,000 per year for years 2 and 3. (*This is from my own exploration so please be sure to fact check and look for up-to-date information for yourself.) As well as having the necessary skills, experience, values and mindset, it requires a stroke of good fortune to be located within commuting distance of one of these 12 universities, plus more good fortune to be offered a place. I’m thankful that my place in the Coaching Psychology world and my membership of the BPS Division of Coaching Psychology (Main) positions me to make a small contribution to work in this area but much, much more is needed. As Dr Gavin Morgan states in the video: “The focus should be on early intervention and prevention for children and their families, rather than the reactive system that we’ve got, where difficulties have already become entrenched…”. Whether you’re an aspiring EP, you work in education, psychology, coaching or any other related profession, or if you are a parent who recognises this need, please do watch the The British Psychological Society video below. #psychologymatters #educationalpsychology #childpsychology #coachingpsychology
Education of thousands more children at risk of reaching crisis point due to workforce crisis. Dr Gavin Morgan, DECP chair spoke to us in response to our recent survey of educational psychologists which found that just over half of all educational psychologists say they feel unable to support children and young people with their current workload. Because #PsychologyMatters: https://lnkd.in/ehMeQt4B
