Professional Learning Days are fundamental to provide our teachers to always be on the cutting edge of the teaching, education and academic skillset. Recently, our Primary teachers at St Brigid's College participated in a professional learning workshop delivered by Knowledge Society. The 1-day workshop unpacked the Science of Learning and Cognitive Load Theory and how it is translated into high impact instructions for students from Kindergarten to Year 6. The session also emphasised the need for ‘getting reading right’, to improve student outcomes in literacy and covered the pace and fidelity of phonics, the introduction of close and critical reading as strategies to improve reading competence and the important of encouraging the use of more ambitious text.

It means a lot to speak to listeners in the Amarillo area in west Texas about my research showing the value of Grow Your Own and teacher residency programs to combat the growing impacts of uncertified teachers on student learning as well as the Teacher Incentive Allotment to make teaching a sustainable career. "We need to be rethinking how we are attracting folks into the profession, and that means providing the resources they need to invest that time to receive high-quality preparation." And once in the classroom? "The Teacher Incentive Allotment offers a viable livelihood, which we *have* to be able to do if we're going to combat the teacher shortage." Take a listen! https://lnkd.in/eya2exFY
