Many efforts to build an AI ethics program miss an important fact: ethics differ from one cultural context to the next. Ideas about right and wrong in one culture may not translate to a fundamentally different context. Because AI and related data regulations are rarely uniform across geographies, compliance can be difficult. To address this problem, companies need to develop a contextual global AI ethics model that prioritizes collaboration with local teams and stakeholders and devolves decision-making authority to those local teams. I found this article fascinating! I would love to know what you think. #AI #artificialintelligence #AIethics #ethics

AI ethics is not a one-time task but a continuous process considering ethics are not universal; they differ across cultures. What is considered ethical in one culture may not be in another, and ethical reasoning can vary significantly due to cultural norms and religious traditions. It’s time to acknowledge that Western perspectives dominate current global AI ethics standards, leading to potential biases and inefficiencies when these are applied globally without considering local contexts. Companies should regularly engage with local teams and update their AI ethics policies to reflect new insights and changes in the local and global environment. Failing to pay careful attention to how you create that committee and how it gets folded into your organization could be devastating to your business’s reputation and, ultimately, its bottom line.” #ethics #ethicalai #corporateethics #responsibleai #explainableai #consulting #executivesandmanagement #executiveleadership #executiveconsulting #boarddirectors #boardoftrustees #advisoryboard #authorsoflinkedin

The heart of an AI ethics program (or “responsible AI” or “AI governance”) is a group of people who are responsible for determining: a) Whether the AI ethics policy applies in a given use case b) If so, how it applies c) What to do in ethical gray cases when it’s not clear whether or how the AI ethics policy applies. In other words, this group must make a variety of tough, reasoned judgment calls. In this article, I explain in more detail the crucial function that group plays. #AI #ethics #AIethics
