There's still plenty more to come... 🧘 RigRun Recovery Zone 🧘 An exclusive area where you can access a range of online resources to help you recover, stay motivated, and gear up for greatness at the next RigRun event. Accessible from May to July, the Recovery Zone will feature pre-recorded and live webinars from accredited health and wellbeing professionals that cover a range of topics, including mindfulness, breathwork, nutrition, and mental health. 💪 RigRun Qualifiers 💪 Taking place in September, this 4-week event puts teams to the test, encouraging them to get as many people as possible to take part and log workouts. At the end of each daily 24-hour game, your team will be given a score between 0% and 100% depending on your team’s participation rate, and it’s this score that will help you to qualify and climb the league table toward Elite Status. 🏆 RigRun International Cup 🏆 Our highly anticipated Cup Challenge kicks off in February 2025, where crews from all over the offshore industry compete in a 6-week competition with their industry peers while maintaining and improving their physical, mental and social health. We all share some war stories from our running adventures, and then delve into the nitty-gritty of keeping runners fueled, focused, and moving on race day. ✌ Now, onto the good stuff! Let's talk crew size. Do you go all-in with a massive team, or keep it tight-knit? We'll discuss the ideal balance and how to avoid logistical meltdowns (because let's be honest, they happen!). Plus, we'll share some tips on how to fix things on the fly when they inevitably do go sideways. 🗝 But it's not all about the crew! We'll also talk about the runner's responsibility in picking and prepping their crew. After all, communication is key! Speaking of which, keeping track of each other at aid stations, especially at night, can be tricky. We'll share some secrets for crew visibility, like rocking funky outfits or glow sticks, to make those runner reunions a breeze. ⛈ Of course, planning for the worst helps too. We'll chat about what to do if you get separated or things take a nasty turn. Prioritizing key support points and having an emergency plan is runner-crew teamwork at its finest. 👨🎤 Now, let's talk pacers! Their job is to be the runner's rock (rockstar?), keeping them safe and motivated. But pacers are human too, so we'll discuss the importance of clear communication about their own needs and limitations. Nobody wants to be out in the middle of nowhere with a pacer who needs to bail! ☕ This isn't all just work though. Crewing and pacing can be an amazing adventure. We'll chat about how to connect with other crews, soak up the ultra-running atmosphere, and truly embrace the unique camaraderie of this sport. I was in the bow of the boat, that's the bit that comes down the river first. My crewmate in front of me was calling "left" or "right" so that the stroke person could move the rudder accordingly. We were doing a 10K time trial. We needed to go under a bridge with several arches which is not quite aligned straight over the river. Normally in training, we stop before the bridge and paddle through safely. Not today though - there was to be no stopping. As we approached the bridge, my focus was to keep the speed and momentum in the boat while my crewmate navigated us under the bridge. I could not get distracted or lose my focus if we wanted to achieve a good time. So, I had to trust my team mate to navigate us safely. The trouble is that if we did hit the bridge, I would be the first one to feel the impact which could result in us not only taking a swim, but I could potentially get injured. However, this day I decided I would trust her, I would not look around, I would not be distracted, I would focus on my job and keep rowing. I won't lie. It took every fibre of my being not to check if she was on course! I knew she was able, I knew she was careful and yet.... the trust was hard. And she did steer us with style, and we did our best time ever. So, why was it so hard to trust? Partly I think it was my fear of her failure....I'd feel it first! Also, the need to control everything can be strong - the "I'm the only one who can do this" syndrome. Potentially too, there is the need to know everything - where we are, what we are doing. But, letting go and allowing her to do her job while I did mine, allowed us both to play to our strengths and collectively row at our very best. Where there is no trust in a team, there simply is no team. And, you are not getting the synergy of the power of the collective group. If they do let you down, discuss it, learn from it and always try again. Begin this week and give over some trust to someone on your team.
