In my role at the Family Heart Foundation, I am privileged to work with many amazing people at these 10 organizations - our CAC members who represent the leaders in the lipid space. They work across many functions (advocacy, commercial, medical affairs, development, government affairs) but are unified in their commitment to bring new, innovative lipid therapies to market to reduce the impact of cardiovascular disease on families around the world. I benefit personally from Pharma’s investment in innovation in the 1980s and 1990s as my statin keeps my LDL at 40mg/dl - in the “safe zone”. But statins are not an option or sufficient for everyone. Even in this golden age of lipid lowering therapies, still >70% of high-risk Americans are NOT achieving their LDL targets and there are no treatments currently available for the millions of people at risk with elevated Lp(a). Destiny Pharma plc (AIM:DEST, OTC:DTTYF) said its strategic focus currently is on maximising the value of XF-73 Nasal, a fast-acting gel developed to prevent post-operative infection. In an update on progress, the company told investors it actively exploring various options to extract shareholder value from the phase III-ready product and, to that end, is in ongoing discussions with potential partners.  According to chief executive Chris Tovey, there are talks with "multiple interested parties". He said: "The strengthened leadership team and board are completely focused on achieving the best deal that we can for XF-73 Nasal as we evaluate all the options that could deliver this product to patients and maximum value to shareholders." In addition to XF-73 Nasal, Destiny is advancing the NTCD-M3 development programme in collaboration with Sebela Pharmaceuticals throughout 2024. Today, Kariya Pharmaceuticals, one of the very first companies BII supported, announced the successful dosing of the first cohort in a Phase 1 first-in-human trial for its lead compound, KP405, that can slow the progression of Parkinson's Disease.💊 According to Ian Laquian, CEO of Kariya Pharmaceuticals, receiving financial support at an early stage has been instrumental in bringing its lead compound one step closer to patients in need.📈   "First-in-human trials are momentous occasions for any organization, but today is extra special when you've been working on a concept for over a decade. Bristol Myers Squibb 𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗼𝗽𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗺𝗮 𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 $𝟰.𝟭𝗕 𝗮𝗰𝗾𝘂𝗶𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 RayzeBio 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝟯 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵𝘀 𝗮𝗳𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗯𝗶𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵 𝘄𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗽𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗰 There’s been no festive respite for Bristol Myers Squibb’s M&A team as the Big Pharma follows up its acquisition of Karuna Therapeutics with the announcement straight after Christmas that it's also buying radiopharmaceuticals-focused RayzeBio for cash. In a sign of how much the radiopharma race has heated up in recent months, BMS is paying $62.50 per share of the San Diego-based biotech, which equates to an equity value of $4.1 billion. This share price is over triple the $18 that RayzeBio secured for its IPO as recently as September, and is even double the $30.50 that the stock was trading at by market close on Friday. Despite the high price tag, BMS executives sounded happy with their purchase, which allows them to go up against leading radiopharma player Novartis and potentially in the near future, Eli Lilly and Company. Unlike Novartis’ approved radiopharma therapies Lutathera and Pluvicto, which use a beta-emitting isotope called lutetium, RayzeBio’s platform is based on an alpha-emitting isotope called actinium-225. https://lnkd.in/eqVK2X85
