How can you grow your network outside your circle? 🤔 Mine is how you maintain the follow-up and stay in touch. Say thanks after meeting someone new. Show you’re keen on their work or ideas. Suggest a next step if things went well, like a meeting or collaboration. Keep the chat going by sharing relevant stuff. Remember, regular and respectful communication builds trust. It’s not just about growing your network, but also about contributing to their success. Keep it real, keep it respectful.

You can only grow your network if you connect with people you don’t know. The general rule of thumb is, if you think you can help them in the next six months or if you think they might be able to help you in the same time period, hit that connect button!

Building a network doesn’t require a lot of effort. All you need is 20 minutes a week to; - Find people who have similar experiences with you - Engage them in authentic conversation about these experiences - Share your experiences publicly The best part? For the next five days, go to your LI profile, pick five (5) colleagues that you had a good relationship with and write a 3- 5 line (not paragraph) recommendation. Don’t ask – JUST DO IT! The vast majority will not only write one back on your behalf but will engage in written / verbal conversation. This is a great way to reconnect / reopen / even expand your network.

How many messages do you receive that follow a similar, (perhaps less direct) approach like the one below? Growing and maintaining a network of people around you is one of the best and most effective ways for finding opportunities, solutions and business. It is all too easy to fall in to your own little bubble and neglect the wider network of people that you have met and helped you previously. Simple things I do to keep connected to my network: ✅ Engage in content that that people in my network have shared/created online ✅ Share information that I see/hear that would resonate with others ✅ Attend meet ups/conferences and make sure I invite others so that I can reconnect ✅ Regular check ins to see how people are/following up on previous conversations. By focusing on connecting and adding value to my network tends to lead to opportunities being presented to me. If you are finding yourself not getting much back from your network, think what you are doing to keep engaged with them.
