The evolution of Fandom: 63% of the Gen Z population in the UK agree that they often spend more time watching content that discusses or unpacks something than the thing itself (e.g., movie trailer, new music video, big cultural event). It's something we've observed in the YouTube Sport space for a while, which is that fandom is now a two-way street: Cultures grow as fans react to moments, and interact with IP to grow the pie for sports overall. See our latest YouTube 2024 culture and trends report. Some great insights on how YouTube cultivates and deepens fan culture: https://lnkd.in/e86ehHeC

How to get to yes (and not ask for work experience)? Instead of asking for favours or help, think about things from the recipient's perspective. The key is to offer something of value - whether it's a report on a new music band for someone in the music industry or a scouting report on a football player. "I don't want work experience, I just need you to say yes". Work out what the other person needs. https://lnkd.in/gjDda479 You can buy the book here https://lnkd.in/gpdxXXg7

Creative Director, Brand Strategy & Design, Digital Media & Marketing, Fractional CMO & Fractional CD.
Jack Conte, CEO of Patreon (and the genius musician behind Pomplamoose/Magaziine), recently took to the stage at SXSW. He criticises current internet algorithms for stifling creators' creative freedom and livelihoods. While the internet initially democratised creative distribution, algorithm-driven platforms like YouTube, Facebook and TikTok hinder creators' ability to reach and monetise their true fans. Conte advocates for spaces like Patreon to empower creators and regain control over their destinies. If you have 90 seconds listen to a section of his speech (25:40) and let it sink in. In a recent discussion I highlighted this very issue, the tension between the synthetic and the authentic. What does it mean for brands and their connection to their communities in a highly controlled media environment? #CreativeFreedom #DigitalMarketing #CommunityDevelopment #BrandConnection #BoldResponse

As a fan of Panplamoose, a band made of Nataly Dawn and Jack Conte , I was drawn to their unique style of music, which I would describe as "Old Pop," and their ability to sing in French. Recently, I've been exploring ways to connect with fans outside of traditional social media platforms. While I have enabled subscribers on Bandcamp, I've been hesitant to move to Patreon , as it felt like just another tech company trying to profit off content creators. However, after stumbling upon this video featuring Jack Conte, where I learn he is co-founder and CEO of Patreon, my perception changed. As someone who is fan of Panplamoose, I wanted to hear Jack's perspective on the intersection of the Internet and the arts. It resonated with me and opened my eyes to the potential benefits of using Patreon as a platform to connect with fans. I've also been exploring the idea of creating my own platform with login and forums, similar to the early days of the Internet, when everyone was running their own web site. While I haven't made much progress due to time constraints, I believe this could be a valuable way to connect with fans and build your own community. Ultimately, my focus is on building a strong connection with my fans and not relying on any platform's algorithm. That's why I prioritize collecting email addresses from fans and building my mailing list. Platforms are still a valuable way to reach fans. My true fans, as Jack Conte classify them, are the ones who have subscribed and support me. Check out the video and let me know your thoughts on the intersection of the Internet and the arts and where we are going. Extra, because I live in San Francisco, his experience with the local entertainment community is very close and true to what I experience with our community of electronic and modular synthesizer enthusiasts. #musicbusiness #music
