Reception is an art form in and of itself, and few know this better than Nelly Alm, Front Desk Supervisor at our design hotel Nordic Light Hotel in Stockholm. This week, she took on the huge task of representing Sweden in the WorldSkills International Competition 2024! Not only did Nelly come in at an honourable 6th place in Hotel Reception, she also received a Medallion of Excellence at the competition in Lyon, France. We couldn’t be prouder of her and her efforts, truly embodying Nordic determination, creativity and positivity. Well done, Nelly! 💙 💛 Last week, Dagens Industri caught up with Nelly ahead of the competition to talk motivations, preparations, and what she calls "the world’s best profession": https://lnkd.in/dyhqxmge #thereasontotravel #nordichotelsandresorts

September 2nd marked a special day, as our exuberant Art Deco palace Sommerro turned two years old. The lavish Sommerro resides in the former head office of Oslo Lysverker, restored into a maximalist palace of fun. Since opening in 2022, it has swept both the locals and international guests off their feet. With several restaurants, bars, a wellness area, a cultural scene, a secluded private villa and even a bathhouse—all framed by meticulously curated design—it's easy to see the lasting appeal of this Oslo landmark. Many congratulations, Sommerro! Photos by Francisco Nogueira #thereasontotravel #nordichotelsandresorts

Traditional Japanese inns, ryokans, have been a part of Japan’s culture for centuries. At #Yasuragi, these traditions have been reimagined in a Swedish context. The result: something entirely new, infused with a northern distinctiveness. The ryokans of old were a haven for weary travellers. They were not merely places to rest, but acted as hubs for cultural exchange as well, where travellers shared stories, news, and customs from distant parts of the country. Hence the word ryokan, ryo meaning “travel”, and kan, meaning “building”. When combined, they create the essence of these inns: a building for travellers. Yasuragi - Japanese Spa- and Conference Hotel in the Stockholm archipelago is a modern-day ryokan. It looks to the philosophy of the traditional Japanese inn, providing everything from onsen baths and Japanese-inspired restaurants, to a wide range of room categories and activities. Here, joy is derived from the instinctual: to eat well, quench your thirst, and connect with others. A fixture on lists of dreamy destinations, Yasuragi is no stranger to praise. Discover why our ryokan-inspired resort is a spa favorite over at ELLE Magazine and Residence Magazine. Copenhagen is a city that can be explored by foot, on wheels, by rail—and, most picturesquely, by boat. At our grand Admiral Hotel, splendid accommodation, great dining, and a historical setting is paired with a truly unique boat service. Meet the boats of the hotel: Lilla Dan, Halmø, and the Venice boat. #LillaDan and #Halmø are the hotel’s two schooners, most often found docked on the Admiralkaj quay behind the hotel. Lilla Dan is the larger of the two ships, and despite its name—“lilla” meaning “purple” in Danish—the ship actually shines in a characteristic red Lauritzen color. This two-masted schooner was built in 1951, where for a long time it was used as a school and teaching ship in Kogtved. Smaller in size but equally as big in personality, Halmø is the older of the two ships. Built in 1900, Halmø is still to this day one of the most well-maintained schooners Denmark can boast. Both Lilla Dan and Halmø are operated by De Forenede Sejlskibe I/S, sailing happy guests around Øresund between May and October. Last, but certainly not least, is the electrical Venice boat. This little gem is one of the highlights of the summer season at Admiral Hotel. Nimble and agile, it can for example be booked for a canal cruise with a private captain along with drinks and snacks, dropping you wherever you like (here, the quay of the sleek #Copenhagen Opera House is a favorite). Curious about a trip onboard? Explore the interior, the boats’ history, and the lavishly beautiful Admiral Hotel at www.admiralhotel.dk.
