Morris Brown College has extended acceptances to the entire senior class of Mays High School in Atlanta, allowing them to join the freshman cohort if they meet enrollment criteria. President Kevin James expressed the college's commitment to providing quality education and access to federal financial aid for the community. The initiative aims to uplift inner-city students academically, particularly considering Mays High School's academic challenges, and follows Morris Brown's reinstated accreditation in 2022, marking a significant milestone for interested students. https://lnkd.in/e9kfv8gy

PREPARE SOCIETY In Howe and Strauss's book, The Fourth Turning, they believed that our society would need to establish norms that would help us weather the coming economic storm better together. Again and again they suggest that our largest problems can and should be addressed locally. Some excerpts from their book include: "Require community teamwork to solve local problems, but don’t try this on a national scale." - Come the 4th Turning, America will require a level of teamwork and self-sacrifice far higher than we now provide (or can even remember). We must battle against civic dysfunction wherever it appears. Expect compulsory youth service to be coming. - Work with both right and left to develop a youth civic apprenticeship. - Among all citizens we need to reinvent good citizenship at the local level. - Communities should improve their own functions (schools, housing, transportation, safety, justice, social services) with their own resources without expecting it from someone else. - Towns should create public spaces to hold meetings and expect citizens to attend. - Encourage ethnic, racial, religious integration and discourage group silos or niching. - In the Crisis, national survival could depend on how well people of diverse backgrounds succeed in forging a new sense of civic community. I hope each of you have a great rest of your week! Dan #courage #courageousleadership #courageousconversations #leadership #smallbusiness #communitybanks #smallfarmers #entrepreneur #community

Recently, I came across an article discussing the state of charter schools, and it struck me how many misconceptions still exist about them. It's clear that even in 2024, there's confusion, with some still equating charter schools with private institutions. As school leaders, authorizers, alliances, coalitions, associations, and vendors, it's incumbent upon us to dispel these myths and educate the public about the reality of charter schools. The NC Association for Public Charter Schools recently shared a Storytelling Toolkit- have you seen it? At Hubrich Contracting, Inc., we're committed to supporting charter schools in navigating these misconceptions and thriving in today's educational landscape. Let's work together to ensure that the facts about charter schools are known far and wide. School choice is a critical component of our education system, and it's essential that everyone has access to accurate information to make informed decisions. #CharterSchools #Education #SchoolChoice #Empowerment #CommunityEducation

Politics may seem like a rather abstract subject matter when you are of pre-voting age. What can serve to make the unfamiliar a little less daunting are the voices of our peers, who motivate us to be curious and open-minded. MASt students and student leaders had the opportunity to experience just this when they attended a ‘Participate’ workshop with PRIORY ACADEMY, DUNSTABLE alumni, Josh. Discussing his personal journey in the workshop, from his burgeoning interest in politics (which was first sparked whilst he was studying at Priory) driven by his grandparent who shared his passion, to his current studies and work experience in the world of politics, Josh encouraged the students to use their personal values to make their own choices as they move along their journeys as future voters (and leaders!), themselves. Harnessing the power of alumni/peer insights can be a much undervalued experience. Josh’s workshop motivated the students to explore the unknown by encouraging them to lean into their curiosity. To approach powerful, and sometimes divisive, subject matter with openness and a tolerance for everyone’s views. And, importantly, to participate when they find something that truly resonates with them as individuals. A brilliant experience for all. Thank you, Josh!
