It's great to see Canada represent at The Global Impact Investing Network inaugural Impact Forum West Coast in San Francisco! It was an inspiring day of discussions, networking, and opportunities. Some highlights for me included: Uncovering racial bias in asset allocation and investing with Daryn Dodson of Illumen Capital Bryan Goh sharing the challenges and opportunities when seeking to standardize blended finance investment structures. How Lara Pierpoint and Trellis Climate think about catalytic capital in fuelling impact. Scott Kupor on the intersection of impact and VC, and opportunities that can emerge for impact investing. I also appreciated the debate across a few talks on standardizing impact measurement. There are opinions on both sides and it's important to work through them to get to a place where IMM helps accelerate the mainstreaming of impact investing, and not impede it. Proving the power of collaboration: Insights from the #PlaceBased #ImpactInvesting Labs. In 2023, our #PBII Labs brought investors, local government and wider stakeholders together in South Essex, Manchester, Bath & North East Somerset, and Dunoon to tackle shared challenges and unlock innovative solutions for #SustainableDevelopment. The results were encouraging: ✅ Validating our #PlaceBasedImpactInvesting theories and bringing our collaborative white paper with the Impact Investing Institute and Pensions for Purpose to life. ✅ Igniting a movement: The Labs fueled a groundswell of interest in PBII, proving its potential to bridge the gap between capital and communities. ✅ Building bridges of trust: We fostered mutual understanding between investors and local stakeholders, paving the way for productive partnerships. ✅ Uncovering hidden roadblocks: The Labs identified systemic issues currently hindering progress, that will inform our R&D efforts going forward. 💡 The GIIN Impact Investor List is live… …and Ring Capital is part of it 🤩 The Global Impact Investing Network's list of 100+ impact investors, published by the Financial Times, provides an overview of these investors' impact assets under management and strategic focus across key sectors and global regions. This initiative provides a useful resource for investors to align their portfolios with impactful and sustainable solutions. It also includes reporting on trend analysis from the GIIN by journalist Sarah Murray and an insightful op-ed from the GIIN's co-founder and CEO Amit Bouri. 🔎 For instance, the GIIN research namely suggests that the allocation of assets to impact strategies has increased at a compound annual growth rate of 14% in the past five years While we are delighted to see the spotlight on impact investing (and to be included in this list), further efforts are needed if we are to massively direct capital to this segment of investment. I'm attending The Global Impact Investing Network (GIIN) Impact Forum for impact investing today in San Francisco. What is impact investing? ROI Squared - investing for positive change (Return on Impact) while seeking Returns on Impact. Beyond philanthropy, impact investing seeks to invest for good and receive the original capital back to to allow for ongoing investing for positive change - and often seeking incremental return up to market or venture rate returns. The power of impact investing is is allows the investor to choose both impact goals and target investment returns. As impact investing continues to grow, there are several approaches emerging to scale the impact of invested capital, including the use of blended finance and catalytic capital, impact measurement, and the intersection of venture capital and impact investing. As co-CEO of Spring and a Managing Partner of Spring Impact Capital with Olivia and Graham Day, these are trends and topics we live and breathe daily in our work.
