#ThrowbackThursday #DidYouKnow in 1927, a fire burned through the former Southern Railway passenger station on S. Elm Street, Greensboro, NC? The fire caused $15,000 in damages, in today’s money that’s around $271,000. The fire destroyed the original roof and damaged the attic, burning stored records and forcing a relocation of the transportation and roadway offices of the Danville system division. As we look ahead and envision the future of this historic site, let’s not forget its fascinating past. 📣 Big news: Today, we’re officially launching a new campaign to protect the High Line and rethink the proposed rezoning of the Western Rail Yards, which threatens to put the magic of our park in grave peril. Follow our campaign Protect the High Line and visit protect.thehighline.org to learn more! 📷: Timothy Schenck
Hi 👋 We’re a new campaign to protect the High Line. We're engaging our communities and elected officials to discuss the proposed rezoning of the Western Rail Yards. Without changes, the proposed rezoning would undo a 2009 community negotiated development plan and put the magic of our park in grave peril. Proposed plans—which include the development of three massive towers and a proposed new casino and were produced without any community input—would negatively impact the experience of millions of visitors and obstruct important and iconic views from the High Line. New Yorkers saved the High Line from demolition in the early 2000s, and then we saved the Spur from being torn down a decade later. We need your help to protect the High Line and put the Rail Yards plan back on the right track—community perspectives need to be heard. Visit our website to learn more, let us know what matters most to you about the High Line, and sign up to join us in the effort to protect the High Line: https://lnkd.in/ddpQUV4K 📸: Timothy Schenck

🚧This week we have a special edition of Wrecking Wednesday! This month, Sessler Wrecking was called into action for an emergency bridge demolition in New Paltz, New York, on one of the busiest interstates in the county. 🏗️ Sessler Wrecking provided valuable assistance to the New York State Thruway Authority during the emergency demolition and restoration of the Brookside Road Overpass Bridge. 🌉This became necessary after the bridge was closed indefinitely due to multiple collisions over the years which caused significant structural damage. 𝟒𝟏𝐬𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐅𝐨𝐱 𝐑𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐩 𝐉𝐔𝐍𝐄 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟒 If you subscribe to BusinessDen, you’ll no doubt have read their two-part story, “Island Tripping,” on the constraints around the G & B Lines’ first stop outside of Downtown Denver. I recommend the story, but to summarize, the way the highways and freight rail cut this part of town off from the street grid concerns the city, vis-a-vis emergency services. There are currently two ways to drive into and out of the neighborhood: 44th Avenue across I-25; and the Fox Street, 38th Avenue, and Park Avenue intersection at the southern end of the “island.” Were a dense neighborhood to be built without new connective infrastructure, firefighters, police, and other first-responders worry they could not enter the neighborhood in their emergency vehicles to keep people and property safe. Emergency services could not abide that. Read more: https://lnkd.in/g_Ng373S #businessden #islandtripping #foxstreet #parkavenue

Testimonial: Toll Brothers used DuraWattle at a new housing community in Colorado. “It’s a lot easier to maintain for vehicles getting on and off. You can actually run over it and it doesn’t get destroyed. You can run over it frequently without it getting torn or ripped up verses silt fence or straw wattle. It’s helped reduce cost and repair on silt fence. I would recommend this verses straw wattle.” Senior Construction Manager Robert Sheward. Watch the full testimonial video now. Link in the comments! Our thoughts are with the victims and bereaved of the Grenfell disaster, and all those still living in unsafe buildings. It is difficult, and heart-breaking, to read that the deaths of 72 people in the Grenfell Tower fire were entirely avoidable and a direct result of systematic dishonesty by manufacturers, incompetence, flawed housing management, government failures, and the fire service response. We hope the report, and its recommendations, ensure that action is taken to keep people safe in their homes in the future. Grenfell will be forever in our hearts and preventing a repeat of such a tragedy should drive all that we do within housing and beyond.
