Last week, ResearchBuildConnect wrapped up an incredible year-plus collaboration with Hyphen, supporting the Initiative for Inclusive Entrepreneurship (IIE)—a national effort, now led by the Milken Institute, that aims to increase access to capital for underserved entrepreneurs. A key focus of IIE is helping socially and economically disadvantaged individuals (SEDI) tap into the U.S. Treasury’s $10B State Small Business Credit Initiative (SSBCI). RBC played a key role in monitoring and evaluation during the 18-month pilot phase, culminating in the final impact evaluation report. I had the privilege of working with amazing implementation partners - Founders First Capital Partners, IIE.VC, Mission Driven Finance®, Next Street, The Aspen Institute, Scalelink, and the Nowak Metro Finance Lab —and engaging with stakeholders nationwide, all united in the goal of creating a more just and equitable economy. Key takeaways from the pilot phase: - Flexibility & Adaptability: Managing a complex initiative like IIE required real-time adjustments and a responsive feedback loop, ensuring the program stayed on track. - The Power of Collaboration: This wasn’t just a top-down evaluation. By co-creating a reporting framework with partners, we ensured the initiative reflected the diverse needs and realities on the ground. - Impact Beyond Metrics: The stories from the entrepreneurs we supported were a powerful reminder that this work is about more than numbers—it’s about creating opportunities for those historically left out of the entrepreneurial ecosystem. As IIE transitions to the Milken Institute, I’m excited to continue to work alongside their amazing team, including Chelsea Wells, Rachel Halfaker, Troy Duffie and see how the program continues to evolve. The pilot phase laid a solid foundation, and I’m confident this initiative will keep driving meaningful impact in the years ahead.
