| ICU Nurse 11+ years| Legal Nurse, an Attorney's Secret Weapon | Collaborating behind the scenes with attorneys nationwide | Medical Malpractice | Personal Injury
Remember growing up hearing "Don't believe everything you see on TV?" With reality shows everywhere, we may forget there's still some truth to that old saying. As much as I love a good medical drama, I cringe during the code scenes! Think of scene for a moment. You most likely saw a heart monitor displaying a flat line. This heart rhythm is known as asystole. Then what did the scene depict? More times than not, I've seen actors/actresses use the defibrillator to deliver a shock to the patient. Is that what you're finding in your cases' medical records as well? So what's the big deal? Asystole is NOT a shockable rhythm according to the American Heart Association. Quick initiation of CPR, Epinephrine administration as well as reversing any reversible causes are the interventions that may save this person's life. Don't let the TV shows fool you. Shocking an asystolic heart is not only not recommended but, may make it harder to restart the heart. During defibrillation, CLEAR is yelled immediately prior to delivering the shock in order to prevent anyone touching the patient from being shocked as well. Last I checked physical contact was necessary to adequately perform CPR. Time spent not performing CPR statistically decreases both survival and quality of life. During this time, there is no oxygenated blood flow reaching the brain or coronary arteries of the heart. ________________________________________________________________________________ Need someone to properly identify heart rhythms and if appropriate interventions were performed according to those medical records? I know heart rhythms, cardiac interventions and cardiac surgery like the back of my hand. CVICU nurse at heart. No pun intended 😎

A perfect summary of the entrapment zones for guyons canal
Compression of the ulnar nerve in Guyon canal can often be confused with compression of the ulnar nerve at the cubital tunnel. A major distinguishing factor is the sensation over the dorsal ulnar aspect of the hand. The dorsal ulnar cutaneous nerve provides sensation to this region and branches off 8 cm. proximal to Guyon canal so it would be preserved if the ulnar nerve was being compressed at Guyon canal or at zone 1. The zones of Guyon canal can help localize the level of a low ulnar nerve injury. 👉Foundational knowledge is critical to developing effective critical thinking skills which is why it’s threaded throughout the Virtual Hand to Shoulder Fellowship, LLC curriculum. As we advance to discuss increasingly complex pathologies, we are always circling back to foundational knowledge, reinforcing knowledge and connecting dots. This is important in cultivating effective critical thinking skills and also in enabling clinicians to become autonomous in continuing their own professional development. Our next virtual hand therapy fellowship cohort begins this September. #handtherapy #handtherapists #certifiedhandtherapist #chtexam #guyoncanal #ulnarnerve #ulnarnervetransposition #virtualhandfellowship

Hello, everyone.💃🏼💃🏼 This week is World Optometry Week. I wouldn't be doing too much talk. I just have some questions for you, my Nigerian patients. 😁 All right. Let's talk. Please, why do you believe that a single herbal mixture made here in Nigeria or outside the country can cure a myriad of diseases? I mean, what makes you believe that just one drug can cure hypertension, diabetes, stroke, depression, financial lack, 😂, academic failure, erectile dysfunction, bad character, and the likes. Why naw? Oya. Talk to me. Don't worry. I won't beat you. Just be honest with me. Why? You went to school, didn't you? Or were you stabbing classes? Was your certificate forged? No naw. I'm interested in knowing what level of knowledge would agree with that error. 😆 Why would you believe such? I'm waiting to hear from you. 😅 Secondly, why do you believe that putting urine inside your eyes can cure your eyes of diseases? Why? Just tell me. 🤔 See ehn, I love you. If I prescribe a drug for you, trust me by God's Grace. I'm not just a fine girl. I have brains too.😛 You think it's easy to spend 6 years in the university, just learning how to care for your eyes and I graduate, only to start destroying people's eyes? No naw. My hands are anointed. 😉 In fact, if e pass my power, I go refer you go another place. Simple. So, I tell you to use a drug. You say 'No'. But you listen to Iya Chibuzor who knows next to nothing about the eyes, except _Karaole_ and _Aboniki_ ; she says put your urine in your eyes, and you go ahead! Really? Who does that?🙄 Why naw? Ko add up. Those things will worsen your vision, believe me. See, I am an optometrist and what I do, is eye care. You can trust me with your eyes. 👁️👩⚕️ Happy World Optometry Week.😌 #optometrist #justforlaughs.😅😅 #worldoptometryweek

A few years ago, I had the privilege of running clinics with a dear friend from UK called Sally E Newton who has now sent me a remarkable gift - a double-sided paediatric and neonatal stethoscope. Its arrival couldn't have been more timely, as I found myself in great need of such a tool. In the field of dysphagia management, the use of a stethoscope may be considered controversial by some. However, I firmly believe that it continues to play a vital role in bedside screening and community follow-ups. It becomes even more significant in a resource-constrained country like mine, where tools like VFFS (Videofluoroscopic Swallow Study) and FEES (Fiberoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing) are only available in specific hospitals. While cervical auscultation should be approached with caution and requires careful training, it can be a valuable adjunct to clinical examination. It allows us to gather additional information about swallowing function, particularly in cases where advanced technologies are not accessible. As I celebrate nine years of practice as a Speech-Language Therapist, this new stethoscope symbolizes the enduring friendships and shared passions that have shaped my journey. It is a reminder of the importance of constantly seeking innovative approaches and adapting to the resources available to us. With this gift, I take great pride in continuing to provide high-quality care to those in need. #SpeechLanguageTherapy #DysphagiaManagement #Stethoscope #InnovationinHealthcare #ResourceConstrainedCountries #BedsideScreening #CommunityFollowups #CervicalAuscultation #ClinicalExamination #SpeechTherapist #NineYearsOfPractice
