The trial demonstrated the feasibility of home OCT use with newly diagnosed, treatment naive #AMD patients. This feasibility trial has led to the initiation of a 600-patient, randomized control trial sponsored by DRCR-net to compare home OCT against treat and extend management. The trial recruited its first patient in January 2024. #digitalhealth #ophthalmology #retina #remotepatientmonitoring #amd

There are treatments to slow the progression of age-related macular degeneration, but the truth is these treatments are mainly for wet late-stage AMD and they come with a high burden. The SING IMT™️ is the only surgical solution available in Europe to allow late-stage AMD patients to regain their vision. Researchers discovered the high unmet needs of patients living with age-related macular degeneration by analyzing patients from the Fight Retinal Blindness (FRB!) registry. The study showed that high treatment burden is common issue in routine clinical practice in Europe, with a quarter of patients requiring injections of conventional VEGF inhibitors every 6 weeks at 2 years and 40 percent discontinuing treatment within 2 years. Gregg Stone, MD, discusses his study finding that despite promise for improving #heartfailure in pilot studies, an interarterial shunt device did not meet the primary composite efficacy endpoint in a pivotal trial, a result stemming from apparent harm among the subgroup with preserved (> 40 percent) left ventricular ejection fraction. He said, “The results from a prespecified analysis support the idea that #IAS is beneficial in patients with reduced #LVEF and harmful in patients with preserved LVEF. However, given the failure to reach the primary endpoint, the conclusion of a benefit in one type of HF and harm in another is, by definition, an exploratory hypothesis.” #HeartFailure #CardiologyResearch #MedicalStudies #ClinicalTrials #CardiovascularHealth #HealthcareNews #ResearchFindings https://lnkd.in/eeMzHps3

🧪Clinical Trial Insights: Hypertonic Saline Infusion in Trauma Patients 🔬 A study led by Alberto F García, Ramiro Manzano-Nunez, Diana Cristina Henao Carrillo, Julian Chica-Yanten, María Paula Naranjo, Álvaro I Sánchez, Jorge Humberto Echeverri Mejia, Gustavo Adolfo Ospina-Tascón, Carlos A Ordoñez, Juan Gabriel Bayona, JUAN CARLOS PUYANA explores the efficacy of 3% hypertonic saline (HS) in primary fascial closure post-damage control laparotomy. 🚫 Findings: HS did not improve the chances of primary fascial closure. Higher rates of hypernatremia observed in the HS group. 💡 Conclusion: The study suggests avoiding the use of HS in patients undergoing damage control laparotomy for trauma. 📖 Delve into this comprehensive research for an in-depth understanding and earn 1.0 CME credit. https://lnkd.in/dQi39cy7 #PhysicianInsights #MedicalResearch #TraumaCare #CME #ClinicalTrials

The #OneStop management approach for acute ischemic #stroke patients leads to shorter times in the hospital and better functional outcomes. The latest study from Manuel Requena et al. has proven that a one-stop approach is additionally cost-effective compared to the standard workflow. What is missing at the moment is a study proving the high #sensitivity and #specificity of FDCT in the detection of cerebral hemorrhage, compared to the gold standard MDCT. Differentiating ischemic from hemorrhagic stroke allows us to initiate stroke treatment with thrombolysis (IVT). We at the University Hospital Basel have started, in cooperation with Semmes Murphey Clinic in Memphis, USA, and Dr. Adam Arthur, the #SPINNERS trial. With this study, we want to prove that an angiography system with Sine Spin technology is the right tool to diagnose and treat acute stroke patients. Ophthopedia Update:Impact of peripheral anterior synechiae on the outcome of combined phacoemulsification, goniosynechialysis and goniotomy for primary angle-closure glaucoma and cataract: a multicenter observational study: Purpose: To evaluate the impact of the extent of peripheral anterior synechiae (PAS) on the effectiveness and safety of combined phacoemulsification (PEI), goniosynechialysis (GSL), and goniotomy (GT) in eyes with primary angle-closure glaucoma (PACG) and cataract. Patients and Methods: This study included patients diagnosed with PACG and cataract who underwent combined PEI and 120 degrees GSL plus GT (PEI+GSL+GT) between April 2020 and October 2022 at 10 ophthalmic institutes. Eligible patients were divided into three groups based on the extent of PAS: 180°≤PAS #Glaucoma #Ophthalmology #Ophthotwitter

Can non-contrast flatdetector CT be compared to multi slice CT? Identifying the type of stroke (ischemic or hemorrhagic) is one of the first steps in any stroke workflow. Currently, the diagnosis is made using a noncontrast multidetector CT scan. However, recent studies showed that considerable time can be saved – and superior outcomes achieved – if the patient is diagnosed and treated using a single system in the angio suite. For further investigation of this question, an investigator-initiated prospective multicenter trial called SPINNERS was initiated by Marios Psychogios, Prof. Dr. from Universitätsspital Basel (USB) in Switzerland and Adam Arthur from Semmes Murphey Clinic in Memphis, USA. Study objectives includes evaluation of intracranial hemorrhage detection in stroke patients, using flatdetector CT imaging performed with syngo DynaCT Sine Spin. If the outcome of the study shows non-inferiority of flatdetector CT, this will support the one-stop-management (or angio only) approach which may improve diagnosis, door to needle time and, subsequently, the outcome for acute ischemic stroke patients.
