Post 1/35: What Makes a Bioreactor "Pilot-Scale"? 🚀 Welcome to the first post in our pilot scale bioreactor series! Ever wondered what a pilot bioreactor really is? Spoiler alert: It doesn’t involve any pilots flying around! Understanding pilot-scale bioreactors is essential for anyone in bioprocess development. But what makes them unique? 🔍 Definition: Pilot-scale bioreactors are systems designed to replicate industrial bioreactors at a smaller scale, typically ranging from 10 to 1,000 liters. They serve as a bridge between laboratory experiments and full-scale production. 📊 Key Characteristics: Intermediate Capacity: Pilot bioreactors are designed with a capacity that supports adequate biomass production and biosynthesis products, enabling process validation without the substantial investment needed for full-scale systems. Flexibility: These systems are typically designed for easy modifications, allowing researchers to experiment with various conditions, formulations, and parameters, making them perfect for process optimization. Once the bioreactor has fulfilled its purpose, it can be integrated as a component in a bioreactor production line. Realistic Conditions: Unlike lab-scale systems, pilot bioreactors operate under conditions that closely resemble those in industrial settings, allowing for more accurate data collection and process validation. Data Collection: They are equipped with advanced monitoring and control systems to gather critical data, facilitating informed decision-making for the eventual scale-up to production. 🔑 Key Takeaway: While a pilot may not navigate the skies, they are crucial in bioprocessing! Pilot-scale bioreactors are essential for successful bioprocess development, allowing researchers to optimize conditions and minimize risks before full-scale production. They offer a unique opportunity to fine-tune processes and ensure viability in a controlled yet realistic environment. #PilotScale #Bioreactors #BioprocessDevelopment #ProcessOptimization #Innovation #DataDriven #Biotech #ResearchAndDevelopment

The Agile BioFoundry invites industry partners to enter collaborations (Strategic Core Industry Partnerships) focused on the development of sustainable aviation fuels and drop-in and/or performance-advantaged biochemicals. From these partnerships, companies can leverage cutting-edge facilities, capabilities, and expertise at U.S. Department of Energy National Laboratories. Industry Partners will have the first opportunity to license technologies produced in the course of collaboration under a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA). As part of Strategic Core Industry Partnerships, industry partners will provide funding or in-kind support in addition to industry perspective and expertise. Interested in working with us? Started on january 1st, 2024, the RE-WITCH project aims to deliver cost-competitive, game-changing solutions in the field of sustainable industrial #cooling and #heating. To do so, RE-WITCH will demonstrate advanced thermally-driven industrial cooling technologies based on #ADsorption and #ABsorption processes driven by an optimized mix of low-grade waste and renewable sources (innovative high vacuum flat plate solar collectors). Such solutions will be demonstrated in 4 demo sites encompassing food and beverage sectors as well as industrial sectors where heat-to-cold solutions are not yet widely explored (bio-refinery, pharmaceutical). The activity will be completed by studying the replicability of proposed technologies in replication sites even integrated with DHN. CiaoTech - Gruppo PNO is involved in the consortium, supporting the #Exploitation activities with the identification of #KeyExploitableResults, Technology #trend and #market watch, and Assessment of possible funding sources to be used for the future #scalability, #commercialization, and deployment. Advancing Circular Economy: #ROBUSTOOproject Enzyme Technologies for Sustainable Biorefineries and Chemical Industries. In line with the EU Circular Economy and Zero Pollution Action Plans, the #ROBUSTOOproject enzyme technologies will be a significant advancement in the development of cleaner production routes to enhance circularity and competitiveness in biorefineries and the chemical industry. The project sets the basis to the development of “innovative and sustainable value chains” especially for processes of biomass conversion, like lignin leftover, and process that valorize leftover lipids and lipophilic substrates. therefore, the wider goal of #ROBUSTOO is to contribute to Europe’s leading position in the bio-based chemical industry while driving the trend towards a sustainable and greener chemical transformation. In addition, it is expected that the project developments will have an extended impact in other sectors not primarily covered in the project. #enzymes #industry #innovation #sustainability #circularity Check it out on the website to learn more about hashtag #ROBUSTOOproject and do not miss the latest news. 🌐💻 https://lnkd.in/dsNK6wqs

🚨EXCITING PLANT-BASED NEWS ALERT 🚨: the full report on the Bioreactor Bottleneck is out now 🌱 As alternative proteins gain traction, focus is now shifting to bioreactors, the backbone of this burgeoning industry. However, capacity shortages and the need for revamped designs pose significant challenges to scaling up. 🔍 What’s the problem? - The bioreactor capacity shortage is a major hurdle in the way of company scalability, with current capacity barely enough to feed 0.01% of the global population. - The demand for effective bioreactors designed for commercial-scale output is already on the rise. 🚀 The future of bioreactors - Companies including us here at Kynda and The Cultivated B are taking the lead in redesigning bioreactors, aiming for smaller, more efficient, and scalable models. - Our plug-and-play bioreactors mean fermented ingredients can be produced locally where they’re most needed, empowering agri-food companies for more decentralised production. - The big benefit of producing industrial-sized fermentation units across many reactors is the ability to continuously harvest fresh biomass. Our modular bioreactors allow our clients to scale up easily. Despite lots of challenges ahead, ongoing innovation and collaboration are the essential tools to unlock the full potential of bioreactors 📈. This is what we’ve committed to at Kynda to make sure this technology fulfils its world-changing potential 🌍 Thank you to Laura Hodgkiss , Emily Baksa and the whole FoodHack team for putting everything together - you can read the full report here: https://lnkd.in/dHdc2hWQ #bioreactors #alternativeproteins #foodinnovation #sustainability #technology
