Teesside International Airport will host FedEx’s UK cargo operations after it agreed a new deal with the company. The agreement will mean 89 tonnes of goods will pass through the airport weekly once it enters operation in June. An additional new five-year lease has also been signed for the company’s existing road operation at the site. The FedEx announcement comes after a wave of private investment at the airport. Among the firms investing is Willis Aviation, which last year committed to a new £25m aviation village and jet centre that is expected to bring between 250 and 300 new jobs to the region and facilitate cargo flights. A £2.5m cargo handling facility also opened at Teesside Airport in 2022, offering security screening, freight forwarding, customs clearage and storage facilities. £2.9bn of goods were exported from the North East in quarter four 2021, with a 47.3% recovery from the pandemic low point in quarter two 2020, higher than the national average. The airport was approved as a Border Control Point last year. This means it will now be able to process perishable products, including food.

UK ANNOUNCES £10.5 MILLION FUNDING TO MITIGATE DISRUPTIONS DUE TO EES As truck drivers and logistics service providers brace for the launch of the European Union's new digital Entry and Exit System (EES) on borders, set to be introduced in November, the UK government has announced an additional £10.5 million in funding to mitigate potential travel disruptions at British ports, reports POLITICO. The EES, which will require British travellers to register their fingerprints and photographs before entering Europe, has raised concerns about significant delays at key entry points. The funding bolsters infrastructure and readiness at critical locations, including the Port of Dover, Eurotunnel at Folkestone, and Eurostar at London St. Pancras. The move comes amid warnings from logistics experts that the new system could lead to extensive queues, affecting passengers and potentially disrupting freight and supply chains, with knock-on effects across the UK economy. The UK Department for Transport has earmarked £3.5 million of this funding specifically for the Granville Dock Project at Dover, a site that will be crucial in processing travellers under the EES. The remaining funds will be used at Eurotunnel and Eurostar to install necessary technology, conduct testing, and recruit and train staff to handle the increased demands of the new system. The European Union is planning on introducing a new EU Entry/Exit System (EES) in October which will require pre-registration of passport details, fingerprints and facial recognition from passports, adding to the ongoing list of international freight challenges. There are a few obvious implications like the need for a digital passports for this process, and the potential delays caused by traffic build-ups during the initial stages; but there is a not-so-obvious implication from this change that we've already seen enforced in Holland and France: - The 90/180 Days Rule: You're only allowed to stay in Europe for 90 days of a 180 day time frame, for mobile workers like HGV drivers, this poses potential challenges the EU is yet to address. A new system will track entries and exits so will be able to track if you have exceeded the 90 day rule. We're not sure how big or small this impact will be but do feel like it's something international road freight should be aware of. Choose Morgan Cargo for proactive, reliable freight management 😊 #RoadFreight #LogisticsSolutions #MorganCargo #BIFA #BrexitImpact #EES #EURegulations

Why do Airlines close their Check-in Counter 60 Minutes before the departure? Airlines close their check-in counters 60 minutes before departure for several reasons, including: Recommended time: Most airlines recommend that passengers check-in at least 45 minutes before departure for domestic flights and 60 minutes before for international flights. Security screening: Passengers need time to clear security screening, which can take anywhere from 15 to 30 minutes. Customs & Immigration: Passengers required time to clear Immigration and Customs formalities before the department which takes time. Boarding: Airlines need to allow enough time for passengers to board the plane, which can take around 20-30 minutes. Load Planning: Airlines need to plan proper load distribution for the safety of the Aircraft and passengers, which can take some time. System limitations: Some airlines' check-in systems may not be able to handle check-ins beyond a certain time limit. Punctuality: Closing check-in counters 60 minutes before departure helps ensure that flights depart on time. As everyone wants to reach our destination on time without any delay and with full Security and Safety, hence the timings need to be followed in the Aviation industry on-time.

Are you a business owner who regularly uses airfreight, but hates jargon❓ Well, we've got you! Do you know what an Air Waybill (AWB) is? Think of it as your shipment's "passport" and "ticket" all rolled into one. It serves two key purposes: 👉 Receipt of Goods It proves that the carrier has received the cargo in good condition. 👉 Contract of Carriage It outlines the terms under which your cargo will be transported, including the destination and conditions. Why does it matter?... ✈️ The AWB ref lets you track your shipment's journey. ✈️ It's a legally binding document that’s essential for resolving any disputes that may arise. ✈️ Customs authorities use the AWB to process cargo - without it, you could face delays or even rejection at the border. Without an AWB, your shipment would be like a traveller trying to fly without a passport or a ticket – imagine the hassle along the way! Found this useful? Stay tuned for more Jargon busting on our page! #AirFreight101 #LogisticsExplained #TradeTerms 💼🌍✈️
