Severe weather conditions disrupting Supply Chains – Stay Ahead with Our Solutions
Dear Customers,
We wanted to let you know about the ongoing challenges affecting freight shipments, especially in light of recent port strikes and severe weather conditions in the southern United States.
Ongoing Delays from Port Strikes
Despite the suspension of the recent three-day strike across the US East and Gulf coasts, significant delays continue to affect supply chains. Many ports are still working through backlogs, which has extended shipment transit times. Mitigating these disruptions, Mapcargo provide trusted weekly premium consolidations from Liverpool to Chicago via Halifax, serving over 100 clients with speed and efficiency, especially during times of supply chain disruptions. Offering a quicker, more reliable route, bypassing the congested ports in the US.
Hurricane Season: Growing Concerns
Unfortunately, the more pressing issue now is the hurricane season. Last month, Hurricane Helene caused port closures and delays in Florida and Georgia. More recently, Hurricane Milton – one of the most powerful storms in a century – has severely affected the region. Ports such as Jacksonville remain closed, and more than three million homes and businesses are without power. Although some airports, like Miami, have managed to remain open, carriers have warned of inevitable delays. Some shipments are being rerouted through alternative airports like Atlanta to reduce disruptions, but widespread challenges should be expected.
Flooded Trucking Routes and Supply Tightness
In addition to port and airport disruptions, major trucking routes have been flooded due to Hurricane Milton.. Rail lines and intermodal hubs in the storm’s path are also in high-risk zones, and the damage to these infrastructures is expected to cause weeks-long disruptions in the hardest-hit areas. As a result, the availability of trucking capacity in affected regions may tighten significantly, as resources are redirected to deliver essential goods like food, water, and rebuilding materials. Additionally, fuel supply disruptions could lead to rising logistics costs, including trucking rates.
