To embed equality into our actions, we’re pleased to have introduced a ‘Gender Identity and Transition’ guidance note for our SLR colleagues in Europe. June is a time to commemorate the progress made in advancing LGBTQ+ rights and inclusion. However, it also serves as a reminder that more work is needed to promote LGBTQ+ diversity, equity, and belonging in the workplace and throughout society. Our LGBT+ at work survey sought the views of 5,474 LGBT+ people in workplaces across 13 countries. Of those who are not comfortable being out in their workplace about their sexual orientation, 32% cite fears that they would face discrimination or harassment as a main reason, with this rising to 41% for gender identity – and when it comes to gender identity 26% cite concerns for their personal safety. In a statement provided to me on behalf of your #CEO Guillaume Faury ( https://lnkd.in/eAuf64YB ) he said the company is working on better accessibility but he and your PR team will not give a timeline for this? Can that be so difficult to do? LGBTQ+ - #IntentionallyInclusive On Tuesday Northern Trust technology were proud to host an event run by LGBT Great on Intersectional Allyship. We are proud to partner with LGBT Great and appreciate their guidance on how we can continue to increase inclusion within our workplace. They talked about 9 types of ally: Advocate, Educator, Amplifier, Disrupter, Strategist, Organiser, Listener, Mentor and Sponsor. The type of ally that we are may vary depending on the situation. The one that really resonated with me was listener. This is so important – not just to be an advocate but to truly listen so that we can understand how we can best support people and continue to grow our inclusivity. One of our cultural behaviours at Northern Trust is to be #IntentionallyInclusive – that means conscious and unconscious action to make everyone feel part of something. Diversity in all its forms is vital to ensure we reflect the world in which we live and ensure that the technology we support and create is the best it can be.
