My Experience as a Criminal Data Analyst (For legal reasons, the data has been altered: names, dates, locations, and visualizations in the final project) Part of my job was to extract crime data from sources such as reports filed with the prosecutor's office and accounts from the victims themselves. However, the majority of my work involved "graphing" this data to present it to an interdisciplinary group (neighbors, police officials, government personnel, private companies, public service managers, etc.) for the joint decision-making process on plans to combat crime and to follow up on the implementation of these plans. I think the most challenging aspect was presenting this plan to such a heterogeneous group in a way that was understandable to everyone while maintaining the appropriate level of professionalism to ensure the project retained its seriousness. I believe that this is what most enriched my experience in the professional world.

Organisations consistently make this mistake when they are hiring for a Chief Data Officer. They think that 'Chief Data Officer' is some sort of defined qualification like a Doctor or Accountant. And that Data is a regulated industry. Because of this, and because they aren't quite sure what they are looking for, their only search strategy becomes mass mailing folks who have the Chief Data Officer job title.
