This research network model allows numerous PhD students and academic participants to learn unique perspectives through their research. The goal of the Research Laboratory is to advance research in areas such as industry-partner-defined objectives, the creation of multidisciplinary research networks, and the effective utilization of the knowledge base available at the University of Debrecen to achieve project goals. This initiative not only aims to develop education but also encourages students and educators to collaborate, think creatively, and share knowledge. Singapore’s National Day is very much a celebration of our diversity. Unfortunately, this diversity isn't always mirrored in clinical trials. In a newly published Review Article on representativeness of participants in pharmaceutical randomised controlled trials (RCTs) conducted in Singapore, authors from Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine looked at four databases —PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library and Web of Science — to identify pharmaceutical RCTs involving the Singapore population over 5 years from January 2017 to August 2022. Among other things, they found that females and Indians were underrepresented in clinical trials, compared to our population demographics. This is important because sex and ethnicity can influence the efficacy and safety of pharmaceutical interventions. Clinical trials are crucial for developing new and effective medications. Ensuring these trials include a representative sample of the population is essential to make sure the drugs being developed are safe and work for everyone. We can achieve this by: • Raising awareness about the importance of clinical trial participation among all communities. • Developing culturally sensitive recruitment strategies. • Partnering with community organisations to reach underrepresented populations. By working together, we can ensure that everyone in Singapore has the opportunity to participate in clinical trials and benefit from the latest medical advancements. Discover how Dr. Masliza’s success story has put Malaysia on the map. Dr. Masliza - Professor and Clinical Scientist "I like challenges, and to get out of my comfort zone. After 25 years as a doctor, I decided to change my career path. I spent a decade at Oxford University as a cardiologist and clinical scientist, researching heart disease treatments and teaching other doctors. It was a fulfilling time, but I felt a pull towards something new. I was recently a Senior Clinical Program Leader at a major German pharmaceutical company, working on global research programs for obesity treatments. It was challenging but an incredibly rewarding experience. I am constantly learning and making a real difference in people's lives.  I have now joined a UK-based health tech company as a Medical Lead for Cardiovascular Sciences. We are developing cutting-edge digital tools that could revolutionise healthcare. The transition from academia to industry has been a learning curve. There were moments of doubt and uncertainty, but I am so glad I took the leap. It has opened up a whole new world of opportunities and experiences. In addition, I am currently a Visiting Professor of Cardiovascular Medicine at the University of Oxford with the aim to bridge the gap between academia and industry. My message for Malaysia's 67th Merdeka: Exert your hidden potential and uncover your authenticity to stand out from the crowd. Create your unique pathways so you are the best person to do what you do. Be so great and truthful at what you do, that you can’t be ignored. Have faith, continue to strive for extraordinary and standing for excellence. Trust me, life will always be fair in the end because that is how it works.
