5 Months at Smthgood: Reflecting on My Developer Journey 💫 It’s hard to believe it’s been five months since I joined Smthgood as a Front-End Developer and became a Crossworker. What a journey it’s been! Every challenge, late night, and breakthrough has brought me closer to the developer I’ve always aspired to be. From Ideas to Reality: 💡 The most fulfilling part of this experience has been bringing ideas to life. There’s something powerful about taking concepts and transforming them into user interfaces that serve millions. I didn’t expect to be here so soon, but every day reminds me that growth happens outside of your comfort zone. Embracing the Grind: 💪 This role has pushed me beyond my limits in the best possible way. I’ve faced complex problems, and rather than feeling overwhelmed, I’ve been grateful for the opportunity to solve them. Overcoming technical barriers has been one of the most rewarding aspects of this role. For someone who’s worked hard to break into tech, I know there’s nothing I can’t handle. Thriving in the Fast Lane: 🛩️ I’ve always been a workaholic at heart, and at Smthgood, I’ve found an environment that fuels my passion for problem-solving. The work is challenging but never stressful because I know I’m growing with every task. The constant feedback from my team has sharpened my skills, and I’m proud of the recognition I’ve received from my team. Last week I completed two years since I joined Codewave, and wow, what a ride it’s been! Coming from a traditional hierarchical setup, I was used to a very different way of working. Moving to a self-managed environment was both a challenge and a game-changer. When I first landed at Codewave, #SelfManagement was a brand-new concept for me. I had spent my entire career in places where decisions flowed top-down, and there was always a clear chain of command. Shifting to a system where autonomy and decentralized decision-making are the norm, wasn’t easy. I had to ditch a lot of old habits and pick up some new tricks. The first few months were the toughest. Adapting to a culture where teams make their own decisions and where continuous peer feedback is the norm was a big shift. But, I quickly saw that this approach builds trust, transparency, and sparks innovation. It’s all about creating an environment where everyone feels they truly own their work and its outcomes. Within a year, I found myself leading the #SelfManagement initiative. Talk about a turnaround! This role didn’t just test my adaptability; it gave me the chance to drive this amazing initiative across the company. Leading the self-management initiative team meant I had to walk the talk. It involved a lot of learning, unlearning old habits, and picking up new ones. It also meant helping others through this shift, showing them the perks of a self-managed approach. #BoundariesOfAction (BOAs) and #SocialContracts have been total game-changers in this transition. These tools give a clear framework for decision-making, making sure everyone knows their scope and responsibilities. This clarity is crucial for making self-management work and keeping it sustainable. Reflecting on these two years, I’m incredibly proud of my personal growth. Embracing self-management has not only increased my productivity but also transformed my approach to work. I feel more empowered, collaborative, and innovative. As I continue this journey with Codewave, I’m super excited about what’s ahead and all the possibilities that self-management brings.
