Production examples of the 1966 Oldsmobile Toronado came with a 7.0-liter V-8 rated at 385 hp. But that wasn't enough for Jay Leno, who gave one of these Olds the equivalent of automotive steroids by equipping it with a heavily modified 425 cubic-inch twin-turbocharged aluminum V-8 LS6 engine that produces 1,070 hp. From the outside, this muscular Oldsmobile looks stock, but it actually rides on an updated C5 Corvette chassis and suspension. And while the original Toronado was front-wheel drive, Leno wisely decided to send all the power to the rear axle of his modified monster. 24: 1967 Mercury Cougar GT Meet Mercury's most successful launch, the Cougar, built in 1967 with 150,000 units. Of those, 12,000 were upgraded to the GT trim level. Behind those rotating headlights is a 390-cubic-inch Marauder GT V-8 with 320 horsepower. Upgraded suspension, bigger brakes, wheels and tires, and a less restrictive exhaust helped transfer all that power to the road. 23: 1969.5 Dodge Coronet Super B A12. This mid-size variant from Dodge was conceived and launched in mid-1965 (hence the odd nomenclature) and was aimed at appealing to the more frugal consumer in need of a Mopar. And the 390-hp V-8 has a then-new configuration of three dual-chamber carburetors. Engineers also fiddled with a number of engine and suspension components to maximize power and speed. The "Bee" in the moniker is believed to refer to the body style of the "B" platform car, while the "Super" speaks for itself when it comes to the powertrain. ". 22: 1970 Ford Mustang Boss 429. A 1970 Mustang Boss 429 would have cost you $4,087 (about $33,000 in today's dollars). With 375 horsepower, the Boss 429 could run the quarter mile in 14 seconds and reach a top speed of 120 mph. The model was only produced in 1969 and 1970, with fewer than 1,400 examples coming off the assembly line. #oldschoolcars #musclecar #v8power #classiccarculture #fastandfurious

Running a series can be challenging, running in a series can be a challenge. Brian, the sales manager at Toprank Importers has been working on this R32 GT-R that he revived since, well, I guess a few years ago. It was rough when he started, and it has slowly evolved into his track car. With the R34's and S15's coming in, this year has been busy. Yaska and Brian have been in Japan several times the last few months. When Ernie, or myself has some time we do some work on the car. Jam it in between regular work, his own car, California compliance work, Stagea 260RS #gtrhunter, OS88 sequential diagnosis and more. In a small series, with a limited number of cars, and wanting to be competitive, they have to set rules. In Nissan Challenge, they break the cars down into 4 classes. CLASS 1 Intended for modified R35s and those that wish to compete against them within the limits of class. CLASS 2 Intended for more race oriented vehicles, allowing for aero modifications and high grip tires. CLASS 3 Intended for mid-level, naturally aspirated or stock turbo vehicles, Ex: Stock turbo SR powered S-chassis, Stock TT Z32, Z33+ chassis. CLASS 4 Intended for lower powered, naturally aspirated vehicles, ex: S-chassis, B-chassis, Z-chassis up to NA Z32. https://lnkd.in/g3s_9uD3

The Pick of the Day is a 1987 Ford Bronco XLT listed by a South Dakota dealership. There’s a variety of ways to tell which generation a particular vehicle comes from. You can go the conventional way and memorize model years. You can just literally number them, as people do with Corvettes: C1 is the first generation, C2 is the second, and so on. Then there are chassis codes, such as the BMW E46. Or you can go by nicknames. Certain Ford vehicles have them. For instance, there are the “Dentside” and “Bumpside” F-Series trucks. It’s similar with the Bronco. The “Bull Nose” models ran from 1980 until 1986, giving way to their 1987-1991 “Brick Nose” successors, which, despite the connotation, had a more aerodynamic design. #FordBronco #PickoftheDay #ClassicCarsJournal https://lnkd.in/ghKWcBdN

#DidYouKnow – The human body is not designed to sit for extended periods of time? When you sit for 20 minutes or more, up to 70% of the nutrient-rich spinal fluid stored between your discs can be lost, which can ultimately lead to damage over time. To address this issue, RECARO Automotive has created the RECARO Ergo AM80. This seat is designed with the proprietary RECARO “S” shaped seat-back and other support, comfort, and adjustment features. These features work in perfect harmony to properly position the driver and provide them with the support they need to stay comfortable while driving. With the RECARO Ergo AM80, drivers can keep their focus on the road. *Only available for commercial use in North America #RECAROAutomotive #RECAROAutomotiveSeats #RECAROErgoAM80

Flat-plane and cross-plane cranks refer to the orientation of a V8 engine's crankshaft throws. A flat-plane crankshaft has throws 180 degrees apart, resembling a four-cylinder layout, offering lower primary vibrations and higher revs but more secondary vibrations. The more common cross-plane crankshaft has throws at 90-degree angles, forming a cross shape, with smoother operation. Flat-plane cranks are often found in high-performance sports cars where maximum performance is prioritised over comfort. There have been some great flat-plane engines in the past, such as the Ford 5.2-Liter Voodoo V8 in the Shelby Mustang GT350/GT350R. You can read more about the most powerful flat plane v8 engines, and their ranking here - https://lnkd.in/eAagPy6D #Automotive #V8Engines #Mercedes
